Bane Of Deceit

Bane of Deceit; the name says it all really. Sick of the current state of this country and the world as a whole, the songs are born of a desire to stamp out the rot and decay that make up todays society. Furious at being lied to by those that are supposed to protect us, sick of the cult of celebrity telling us what we should all be aiming to be, and downright pissed off at the scum that walk our streets, distributing recreational toxins and poisons and preying on the weak and innocent with crimes of violence and depravity. If you want to fight the injustice inherent in todays laws and systems, if you too are sick of living by the law and still being trampled all over, then here is a good place to start. Get behind the Bane of Deceit machine, march against racism, greed, selfishness and pompous decadence and stand up for your freedom and your right to lead a peaceful existence.
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
Basically I got disheartened with bands I had tried to form in the past. Most of them never got out of the practice room, the fires died down, there was no direction etc. I decided rather than lay down and quit to rake together what little money I had and build a really cheap, nasty home recording setup. It's not much but it does the job, the fruits of my labour are all here to be heard as I have not been able to save up for proper studio time yet. So I have written several songs myself under the name of the Legion Project. After I had written a fair few I decided that the best way to get a band together with a sense of direction was to have pre-recorded material as a starting block, and so far it seems to have worked! I recruited several of my good friends to play the music, and things are starting to roll now. It seems to be the best way to start a band and get it moving. I also decided that the name needed to change to reflect what the songs were about, what I was about, and what we as a band are geared towards. I came up with Bane of Deceit...it does what it says on the tin! :D
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
We have only done 3 live gigs so far with the live line-up. Even though we only have a short set at the moment due to limited material, we have enjoyed every moment on stage. We're thirsty for more! We have played 2 venues in Exeter so far, the Hub and the Artful Dodger, both quality venues that we will continue to frequent as many times as they will have us. Every time we get an applause is a special moment to us, it means we're doing something right!
Your musical influences
With the Legion Project I recorded many different styles of music, but the majority of the material was heavy metal based. Although my influences vary greatly, from world music to jazz and all in between, my heart truly lies with bands such as Pantera (R.I.P Dime), Machine Head, Divine Heresy, DevilDriver, Slipknot, Fear Factory. I'm into crushing guitars, heavy riffs, punchy drums and general metallic heavyness, heh.
What equipment do you use?
For home recording I personally use B.C Rich Guitars, Bare Knuckle pickups, Peavy and Behringer mixers and comprerssors, ADK microphones, a Pod XT Live (an awesome bit of kit for home recording, never wakes the neighbours. :D ) and a rubbish computer that I hand built from cheap parts. I say rubbish, but it does the job fairly well. The guys in the band use Marshall amps, Epiphone, Ibanez and Guild guitars, Tama drums and Line 6 effects.
Anything else?
Not much more to add! If we are in your area come out and see us. Our message might be a serious one, and we know we have a lot of hard graft ahead, but we are a fun loving bunch of guys, so come out and party with us!
