SAB and Piano. It is about what happened on the day Jesus died, according to Matthew and Luke. It stresses the importance of the crucifixion without skipping ahead to the resurrection. A great song to close a Good Friday or Passion Sunday Service.

Story behind the song
It's set to the tune "Huron Carol," also known as the Christmas song, "Twas in the Moon of Winter Time." I wanted to capture the events of the death of Jesus, and the empty feeling of the people who were there, while also emphasizing the great things Jesus accomplished for us on that day.
Lyrics
The Day that Jesus Died Tune 'Twas in the Moon of Winter Time Deep darkness fell upon the land the day that Jesus died. His cry was heard by all on hand the day that Jesus died. The trembling earth did quake and groan In grief so deep it shattered stone. Yes! The earth mourned that day. Earth mourned and cried The day that Jesus died, Then all was silent on that hill the day that Jesus died. The blustery wind was cold and chill the day that Jesus died. The people turned t'ward home and bed In silence. Not a word was said. Everyone went their way Empty inside. The day that Jesus died. But from our sins we were set free the day that Jesus died. They were destroyed there on that tree the day that Jesus died. His bitter suff'ring, pain and strife, For us forgiveness, for us life. Prayers of thanks we will pray. Freed! Justified! The day that Jesus died.
