Story behind the song
This was written around the time of absolute chaos in my life. The song started out as being quite angry and desparing, until the words found a voice of their own and became a tribute to other artists and songs etc...In a playful manner. Good fun to write.
Lyrics
Planting seeds in the soil that will never grow When will I feel the warmth in between my toes? The cradle will rock as I begin to roll The baby inside wants to play my rubber soul And nobody wants to play my other hand 'cos nobody wants to even understand Swing your pants to little ol' Nat King Cole He was a swoony old croon with a voice like liquid gold One drink your drunk on heavens timeless ears Whilst Steely Dan's on tour 'Reelin' In The Years' And nobody wants to play with this young heart 'cos nobody seems to care if I fall apart I'm better off dead in the sand! But then again on the other hand. Whistle while you work that's a funny tune 'cos who can hear you when you're locked on your VDU There's so many songs to sing when you're under pressure So maybe I'll escape to that land with the purple heather. And nobody wants to play with this young heart 'cos nobody seems to care if I fall apart. I'm better off dead in the sand! But then again on the other hand. So remember these 'words of love' I tell If you 'want to know a secret' it's in the knell of the bell For fortune's in the hands of those who pray As God's love lives in loves labours lay And nobody wants to see the whites of my eyes As everybody's fingers are planted well in their pies I'm better off dead in the sand! But then again on the other hand.
