Based on breakbeat and drum n bass, Schizophonix's music has a dark jazzy edge, dense sonical textures, a retro feel and a taste for noise. It flirts with several genres without pertaining to any, and it is beat-driven without being dance-oriented.
Schizophonix is my personal project, a product of several years of evolution in electronic music and linked to the ups and downs of my personal trajectory...
Me, I am a schizophrenic over-qualified underachiever, terminally self-exiled, slacking my way through life while I still have an excuse. I live in Barcelona in lack of a better place, and I am illiterate in three different languages. My hobbies include self-pity, practicing martial arts, wondering endlessly about the meaning of existence, feasting for days and nights on end, and falling in love with with who I shouldn't. In my free time I work, but only when I absolutely cannot find a way around it.
I use Ableton live as my main sequencer, so playing live is taken for granted. I have special versions of all my tracks for live performance, a bit faster and more simplified to allow for real-time messing with. I have various live projects going on, one of which involves me colaborating with a vinyl spinner (El NiƱo Macarron) and another one mixing flamenco guitar and voice with luxurious electronic filth.
I have been brought up listening to Ninja Tune and Warp, I identify with the breakbeat and drum and bass movement, and I also love avant-garde composers like John Zorn or Iannis Xenakis. I listen to all kinds of jazz with a special preference for William Parker, late 60s Miles Davis, and anything experimental. I find that my music has similarities to that of Amon Tobin, Funki Porcini, Richard Devine, Squarepusher, Aphex Twin, Clifford Gilberto, Prefuse 73, DJ Shadow, Add N to (X), John Zorn, Red Snapper, Jaga Jazzist, Bonobo, Spring Hill Jack, Speedy J and more...
