Story behind the song
I literally bought a new Ford Escape one Friday night. The following morning I was writing a song and needed a working title. I chose Friday Night Escape, and it conjured up an entire scenario about self help (albeit tongue in cheek).
Lyrics
I fell asleep on the couch, at 8 o'clock at night I was a candidate for boredom suicide. I had to make a change, and I was losing time. I grabbed the telephone and punched the numbers in of people I could call in hopes they'd understand. They couldn't change my life but they could help me plan. Could they help me out, show me what life's about? Get me out of my chair? Make me do my hair? Help get me back in shape? A Friday night escape? Nobody picked up the phone, or else the line was engaged. I had to find someone to help me out of my cage. I was an open book, but couldn't turn a page. I opened up the door, and yelled into the night Was there someone there who'd help me win the fight? I was a tinder box, a spark could reignite. Could they help me out, show me what life's about? Put me on rewind and open up my mind? Help get me back in shape? A Friday night escape? Could they help me out, show me what life's about? Put me on rewind and open up my mind? Help get me back in shape? A Friday night escape?
