Cassenofire (casino-fire) are Glasgow-based band who draw influences from bands such as Explosions In The Sky, Sigur Ros, Godspeed You Black Emperor, Minus The Bear and Cave In, and mix instrumental ambient rock with charming lyrics and splashes of electronica.
The current line-up is Ben P(Vocals/Guitar/Keys/Programming), Graham (Guitar), Andy (Bass/Keys/Programming), and currently Ben S (Drums/Percussion/Backing Vocals).
We've just resumed rehearsing after a summer break and are hoping to tighten up as a band and possibly record some more material in the near future as well as start performing in and around Glasgow.
Band started back in September of 2004 with Ben, Graham and then drummer Barry all jamming in Ayr and Paisley. Around about Christmas, it was felt Barry didn't really fit with the kind of stuff we were wanting to do, so myself and Graham went solo and soon after found drummer Gary, who we had successful jams with. Again, later down the line, Gary decided to focus more on his Uni work and wasn't really into what we were doing (Side note: Gary apparently wanted to do heavier stuff, and the next time we had a drummer in, we were far heavier. We also spotted him in the same studio as us, in the next room, jamming with another band a matter of weeks later). From this point, we jammed a few times as a 2-piece, just writing material. In late-March, we got back in touch with Ben Singer, an instrumentalist we were going to work with before that never came to anything, and got him in on drums, and he turned out to be our best drummer to date. Unfortunately, Ben had other commitments with his other band and wasn't able to continue with us. Ironically, the week after Ben's departure, we hooked up with Andy, our bassist, and started to jam as a 3-piece, and that's when all the electronica started!
At the moment, we don't play live. We're just enjoying rehearsing, writing music and getting comfortable as a band. In previous bands, we have gigged and it is definately something we hope to make part of our band in the near future.
We all have mixed influences, which we feel goes towards the sound we create, but we do share similar influences with bands like Sigur Ros, Minus The Bear, Mogwai, and Godspeed You Black Emperor.
