Music is life. Nothing else matters.

When it comes to her philosophy in life- "music is life, life is music: nothing else matters," DJ Jakki Glass has certainly held true to her word. Starting off collecting records and playing around on a pair of hand-me-down turntables while in high school, Ms. Glass had no idea that this was only the beginning of a profound relationship between her and the music. In the beginning, her style favoured that of darkstep, eventually progressing to classic jump-up jungle, which still remains one of her favourite styles to this day. Jakki has also had enduring interests in atmospheric ambient, downtempo, and even old school breaks. All of these interests have lead to the diverse and talented d.j. that she is today. After spending much of her free time practicing, Glass finally found herself involved with the Unity Crew of Washington, D.C. With Unity, she got her first gig in 1999, spinning at Tracks (D.C.). It was here that she spun with Feelgood, which as she puts it, is her "claim to fame." Let that be the beginning of many claims to fame. A year later, she spun at The Edge (D.C.) with Tom B., also representing for Unity. Shortly thereafter, Ms. Glass broke free of the Unity Crew and became a freelance d.j., working more on her ever improving technique, attaining more records, and just having fun playing around with the music. Glass was also in a fierce d.j. competition at Shorty's in Baltimore, where she came in at a close second! So even though she was not playing out too often at this point, Jakki was hard at work on her style and presentation. In listening to any of her sets, one can find the poetry in the seamless progression of songs, the way she can flawlessly, almost magically, find one continuous meaning in the music and just go with it for the duration of her set -be it breaks, jungle, downtempo-this girl's got infinite potential behind the tables. One of the skills that stands out most is the way Glass "teases" in the next song ever so slightly, creating an apparent yet subtle buildup that often leaves listeners wondering when the transformation to the next song has even occurred. She is also quite solid with cutting in and out if songs, on point every time! It is the skills such as this that make Jakki Glass a standout in the d.j. world. She has staying power, and it was only a matter of time before she came back on the scene once again, stronger than ever. In the summer of 2003, the perfect opportunity presented itself and Jakki became a member of Warp Sights and Sounds. She also recorded a demo and a few other side-projects around this time. This past summer, Glass played at the Tunnel in D.C. and in December at Goodfellas in York, Pa, where she was indubiously well received. At the present time, Jakki is busy trying to network and put herself out there so more people can hear hear her demo, so she can meet other d.j.s and have the chance to work with them, and just to have a good time. She's also interested in writing her own music, as Warp Crew is in the process of building a multi-media studio, naturally with audio and video being the main focus. The hope is that this getup will be up and running within the next year. But no matter when or where, there is no doubt that Jakki will excel in creating new music AND continue to take the world by storm, one club at a time.
