On the internet, for an artist, there are many ways of getting your music heard and critiqued. Websites, forums, Soundclick, myspace etc are all ways of getting your stuff out there. Here on this site, as many other Hip-hop sites, lurks many up and coming artists working together to elevate eachother hopefully propelling most into the game. On many sites there are classifications, here we have battle rappers, we have punchlines kings, love song makers, gangsta rappers and many more. One person that obviously cannot be classified after hearing a glimmer of his music, is none other than STRICK9. This artist brings a different perspective into the game, while here or their he may be dipping his toes into a certain genre, he never really takes a swim. "The STRICK9 Project" was the efforts of a long and hard year of work, and after listening to the album, many will agreed it was worth it. Bad Abbot, the first track off of the album has a classic beat that screams underground hip-hop, Strick9 grabs the instrumental and makes the listener feel what he is saying. The last bar of this cut really summed up my feelings on the whole of this, Strick cleverly states "I never *talk shit*, i just *talk where i'm from*" His deliver is unqiue, as well as his flow, after hearing to this track it was clear that as many other members of this site have said and i quote "Strick is definitely the most underrated Mcee on this site". The second track once again raises eyebrows, entitled "Not Really A Club Banga" takes a "Club Banga" type beat and while many might roll with that, Strick takes a completely different path, while contrasting Clubbish stuff, openly bashes it, a very solid track once you get into it. Great imagery really adds to the worth of this one. "3 Seconds" the third single is about a man and his troubles, the beat like many others on this Album, is real underground hip-hip. The concept of this single is rare, and very thought provoking, the only negative would be the first artist, his is very monotone, and his flow is choppy, but the hook and the other two artists are great. after listening to this album, i feel a great relief to know there is someone still out there not afraid to step out of the curtain of regular rap and create their own genre. Now that i have said that, i must and will bolded state, this album is one of the most well rounded from an underground artists i have ever heard. "Lord Please" gives a personal feelings to what is going on in strick's life, giving a very heartfelt aura. "Till The Wind Blows", an unbelievable single strick composed about his own family which is incredible, considering the awkard behaviours people usually exude when they are asked to speak on their own family. This album is filled with great concepts, of death, mourning, anger and much more. I could go on for pages of indepth breakdown of the content within this collection, but that is for the listener to investigate, one thing that definitely holds true, if you decided not to listen, you have no idea what you are missing. Positives of this album, have been stated all the way through this review, strick demeanor on every track is out of this world, his ability to bring new perspective to ideals some have never even touched on before is maginificent. The biggest positive i take from this Album is strick boldly states in the first track, what type of artists he is, and never once does he sway from that ideal. negatives of this track are simple and Strick himself already knows what i will say, because he states it within the album. Too much swearing takes away from the verses, and the meaning behind what you are trying to say becomes lost. With that said "The STRICK9 Project" is the definition of an Album, from the beats to the artists, this solid delivery is undeniably some of the best work put out by an artist on this site and i urge everyone to take a look. Just like the meaning of the name entails, Strick is hear to lay the poison in the commercial rap of today, while paving the way for not only his success, but also that of underground hip-hop. Strick9 motives should be taken seriously, becuase their is no doubt it my mind, that continuing alone at this pace, the game will seriously be taken. Mixtape Rating: 4 1/2 Stars Renegade
