The SATB choir of St Michael and All Angels, Mount Dinham, Exeter numbers around twenty and is formed of local residents, students of the University of Exeter and those from further afield. The choir sings a wide repertoire of sacred music including motets and settings of the mass by Byrd, Victoria, Stanford, Part, Lassus, Darke and Palestrina and, at each Solemn Mass, plainchant propers from the English Gradual.
The choir sing at the weekly Mass, for Evensong and Benediction on the first Sunday of the month, and a smaller group meets to sing Vespers on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 6.00 p.m. to which all are welcome.
The Director of Music is Neil Page who, prior to taking up his present appointment with this choir, had served Crediton Parish Church for many years in a similar capacity. Neil is much in demand and shares his time between St Michael's, Mount Dinham and St Boniface Episcopal Church, Sarasota, Florida, USA. In his absence, the choir is fortunate to have Erika Borley and Alex West as able leaders and conductors. Erika sings with the RSCM Millenium Youth Choir and joined St Michael's as a choral scholar. Alex is an accomplished organist, having been awarded a scholarship at Cambridge before moving to Exeter. The organist is Dr Nigel Browne who is also an organ advisor for the Exeter Diocese. The church and choir are currently engaged in raising funds for a replacement, period pipe organ.
