Original band from Ipswich Suffolk, England , with high energy and a wonderful chemistry as a live experience. NWB played their own brand of blues ,soul , rock & funk
Fronted by famous singer Nik Wymer of Nix Nomads & The Fairies with his son Mark on guitar, this is home grown talent at its best.
Nick Wymer is a blues /rock /soul singer with charachter amd calibr;e ,that rare breed of raspy blues and soul that reaches parts other singers fail to do.
Mark Wymer the lead guitarist is the main songwriter in the band and together we have marked up quit a track record of recorded material .
Nik has over 45 years of experience in the music business, his voice
has been compared too Joe Cocker, Roger chapman & Steve Marriot.
The NWB album was recorded in 1999 and has over 3.5k views.
This is an interesting story about a Suffolk musician who made his debut in the early sixties first with a band called Nix-Nomads, Nik Wymer of the Nomads was one of the very few of that time in Ipswich, Suffolk to make a record deal with a major label, who had won a competition in 1963 and were signed to HMV with a single ,"Your nobody til somebody loves you" HMV B side -"She'll Be Sweeter Than You",which has been subsequently a British Rhythm & Blues classic /collectable and can be found on at least 10 combilation CD's in the U.S to date. Nik and the band toured up and down the country headlining the big clubs like the 'Top Ten Club' in Hamburg and around Europe after The Beatles and The Rolling Stones.
Later in 1964 Nik left the Nomads to pursue his career in London and was to join a band already established to Decca Records called The Fairies who,s singer had crashed the van whilst drunk .The Fairies were swiftly dropped by their label Decca. Nik joined The Fairies in their hour of need and recorded two singles "Get Yourself Home/Don't mind" Their second single was a commercial affair but had A Fairies arrangment of "Don't do it" A Marvin Gaye hit on the B-side on Nix Nomads label HMV. Both singles were promoted with tours of the whole U.K with Nik driving the bedford van to places such as Dunfirmline Scotland and venues in Wales a small fact that gets forgotten the rest is rock n roll histoy.
Like when Nik was introduced too Hendrix by the Fairies manager @ the Sgt Peppers club.
Shortly after The Fairies split Nik joined "Them "After Van Morrison left and started a tour with 'Them' singing classics like 'Hear Comes The night 'Baby Please Don't Go' and 'Gloria' and was spotted by A & R from Immediate Records and later recorded sessions with Jimmy Page and Jeff Beck.
Nik first played with his son Mark in a band in 1981 called "Traitors Gate"with Dan Thompson on drums .Their demo was produced by Danny Thompson snr and was played to Tony Visconti who offered the boys a day at good earth studio,London Mark was only 18 at that time.
The Nik Wymer Band was formed in 1996, by guitarist/songwriter Mark Wymer Niks' son and Darwin Coe/drummer fter Mark left "Faith". We tried several bass players but nobody was really "getting it" and eventually we found Jason Deighton and he was the best bassist we had come across and the band clicked ,we all like the challenge of different styles of playin/genres,retro,Rock,blues,funk,soul and sometimes jazz!
When we had done some gigs for a couple of years we recorded an original E.P and Album at Springvale studios produced by Mark Harwood (see friends list) to the view of being signed to a record label in the UK or otherwise. We have had some positive feedback and are still looking for new oportunities to take the Nik Wymer Band to the next level and create a bigger fan base and also give music lovers the chance to discover Nik and NWB for the first time.
Suffolk, London and Norwich .Weve done many gigs over the yrs and had many special moments like when Niks mike stand broke in Norwich and he started waving the mike stand over his head the crowd loved it !Nik is still quite wild live and its funny when you see peoples reaction who are not used too this kind of intensity their blown away!
