Jimmy Luttrell, a native of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, has been playing the guitar since his mother introduced him to the instrument at the age of ten. Following this early introduction he became inspired with the sound and possibilities of the instrument and has immersed himself into refining and perfectly his unique style. Along the way, Jimmy has learned to write his own music and to play a number of other instruments. He has established himself as a perfectionist playing the guitar, keyboard, and bass. His ability to play many musical instruments has allowed him to broaden and enrich his playing style.
Eventually, this self-taught musical talent moved to the San Francisco Bay Area. He went on to win the State Champion Guitarist of California award in 1956. And with over fifty years of experience on live stage, television, and studio recording Jimmy has presented his musical mastery to many happy audiences.
Jimmy has also become as innovator with his finger style with a flat pick. This unique playing style has caught the attention of many well-known performers. Jimmy has performed as a guitarist for such outstanding artists as the Drifters, Ben E. King, Spade Cooley, Bobby Vinton and many others. In the early 1960’s, while in Hawaii, the late great Jimi Hendrix heard Jimmy performing and immediately wanted to learn his guitar techniques and playing style.
After a rewarding playing career and teaching many famous artists and local students, Jimmy has finally decided to record his own music. His first album, Midnight Groove, features his signature song of the same name. The music offers a smooth jazz percussion sound with a slow to medium tempo that captures the essence of his dazzling playing style. His beautiful melody sounds leaves a lasting impression that becomes a part of the listener.
