Astathica started back in 1999 as a two-man project that consisted of Chiram (guitars) and Astathica (drums, vocals, keyboards) and came from the melodic metalband Melancholik, in which both members played alongside Shade (vocals). Nowadays, Astathica is a one-man band with various session members, creating the music that should be made. No more, no less.
Band/artist history
Biography (from www.astathica.tk) Astathica started back in 1999 as a two-man project that consisted of Chiram (guitars) and Astathica (drums, vocals, keyboards) and came from the melodic metalband Melancholik, in which both members played alongside Shade (vocals). The main purpose of the band was to create dark and brutal black metal in the vein of Emperor, Darkthrone and old Dimmu Borgir. Even though the band was purposed for the studio only, there was still a plan of performing live in the future. In 2000 the first song called 'The Black Crowes of Time' was finished, and after that the songs 'Genocide' and '666 Roses' were added to the repertoire. These three songs formed the '666 Roses' demo, which was the first thing ever put out by the members. After that Astathica went writing for a new demo. Together with Chiram, the 'Deus Mortuus' demo was finished in 2001. With 7 tracks, including the old songs 'Genocide' (renamed to 'Beauty of Darkness') and '666 Roses' (renamed to 'Fall of the Nazarene') and the new song 'Fury of Bestial Insanity'. Reactions on the demo varied from mediocre to very good. Immediatly after that, the writing and recording started for the first full-lenght album, 'Birth of the Infernal Darkness'. Even though the band still didn't have a record company, they went forth fully to create their best piece until then. The writing, recording and mixing took a full year, and they were accompanied by Frozen Moon, who wrote a few lyrics for the album. Finally, in 2002, the album was finished. 10 tracks (plus 3 bonus tracks), and more then an hour of music was the result. And even although Astathica still wasn't really happy with the final mix, the album got good reactions. In the next period, a split between Ziggy Sin (Chiram's one-man project) and Astathica was realized, although never released. The split contained the song 'Return of the Ancient', probably the the band's most well-known song to date. In the year 2002 Chiram left the band, and Astathica recorded a full album called 'Creations of Blasphemic Pleasure', which remained unfinished since Astathica wasn't happy with the result. Next plan was the full-length 'Religion of Liars', a conceptual album, but due to circumstances only one of the songs was recorded together with guitarplayer Thomas, called 'Duistere Krachten'. Maybe someday the album will still be realized. After learning himself some guitar abilities, Astathica is busy recording the full-length 'Shaped to the Image of the Flames' in 2003. With this one, it's one step closer to realizing a new sound, more brutal but better balanced. Accompanied by Harm Roeffen and Thomas for additional guitar duties, this album will be a new mile in the vast history that the future will bring for Astathica.
