New York based, THE LOST TRICKS a progressive power-pop/rock undertaking originated as the solo identity of singer/keyboardist Trevor Oswalt (of TV’s “Third Watch”, and “Guiding Light”). THE LOST TRICKS’ debut release, “Eye Of The Storm”, is an eleven-song record entirely written, produced, performed, and mixed by Oswalt, and mastered by Nathan James at The Hit Factory. The lush tracks are comprised of keyboard anthems, wall-to-wall harmonies, pop-sensible songwriting, and big bouncing beats. Listeners and luminaries have already likened the “mini-pop epic” sound to performers ranging from Beck to Rufus Wainwright, as well as the sounds of the 70's and 80's (while always striving for anti-Williamsburg vogue).
Raised in Oregon, Oswalt studied singing and piano and was heavily influenced by jazz greats such as Bill Evans and Herbie Hancock, as well as pop icons like Billy Joel and Bruce Hornsby. As a solo performer, composer, and actor, Oswalt has worked all over the world, including performances in places such as Los Angeles and Moscow. Oswalt’s current project, THE LOST TRICKS is already attracting an underground buzz via the hand-to-hand pre-release distribution of “Eye Of The Storm”.
THE LOST TRICKS high-energy live act consists of Oswalt on vocals and keys (hard-edged arpeggiators, vintage E.P., & acoustic piano), backed up by catchy drum loops and synth accoutrements. The resulting and impressive “solo” sound is a convincing translation of the heavily arranged “Eye Of The Storm”, while still retaining a powerful and energizing immediacy that is as raw as it is sincere and personal.
THE LOST TRICKS is currently performing throughout the Northeast to promote the upcoming release of “Eye Of The Storm”. Full band shows are also currently in the works for the near future.
