Flying Frogs is an acoustic-based group dedicated to playing an eclectic mix of compelling music that is not defined by traditional labels. We thrive on improvisation, interplay and listening.
This band formed as Michael Farrell, playing in the band Eclectic Electric, was looking for a lower volume acoustic based outlet to further challenge his playing and songwriting. He plays acoustic guitar and dobro with the Frogs. Michael had played with Pat Winger before and hoped he might be interested. Luckily for Flying Frogs, he was. Pat plays nylon string guitar in the Frogs. Bruce Imig played fretless bass with the Frogs and added his voice, but has since moved on to other things.
Yes, as often as possible. Usually more intimate venues in the Aspen and Vail areas.
We listen to a lot of different things. Flying Frogs has a strong jazz influence, but also is informed by all of the other types of music we listen to - rock, Latin, classical, Indian, Celtic, Nepalese, blues, folk, etc...
Acoustic steel string and nylon string guitars, dobro. A D3200 digital recorder. Fretted and fretless basses. We've also experimented with using mandolin and flute.
We hope this music may be of interest to musicians and non-musicians alike. Please leave us some comments.
