Celtica
CELTICA! It's Irish Time! Follow us in 2018! Central PA- Celtic/Folk/Roots/Celtic Jam Band Mixing traditional Irish and British Isles’ melodies, Celtica has made its name over the years by delivering bawdy tavern covers and interpretations of Dylan and the Dead, sea shanties, political plain songs from the old country and folk reveries sweet enough for fairies. Celtica’s top download is continuously “The Whaling Song” which has a contemporary political theme for the environment and comments on over-fishing of the seas. Handsome Molly, upbeat and lively, also earns many a listen. “Girl of the North Country” is a favorite of listeners. Flutist, Flora Eyster, was formerly in a performance duo with John Skehan of Railroad Earth. She is a five-time PA Partners on the Arts award winner-- (one as grant administrator). Celtica has shared the stage and billing with festival artists such as: New Riders of the Purple Sage Donna Jean and The Tricksters Peter Rowan and Tony Rice Quartet Railroad Earth David Gans Stir Fried Boris Garcia Willie Jack and the Northern Light Backwoods Experiment PRESS RELEASE: Central PA- Playing with the infamous 2016 Irish Rovers "Farewell Tour" program at the Williamsport Community Arts Center, Celtica mixes traditional Irish and British Isles’ melodies with acoustic and stage electronics. Celtica has made its name over the years by delivering bawdy tavern covers and interpretations of Dylan and the Dead, sea shanties, political plain songs from the old country and folk reveries sweet enough for fairies. Celtica’s top download is continuously “The Whaling Song” which has a contemporary political theme for the environment and comments on over-fishing of the seas. Handsome Molly, upbeat and lively, also earns many a listen. “Girl of the North Country” is a favorite of listeners. They perform several Steve Earle songs and these are fan favorites! The band has been together since the late 1990’s when they discovered the impact of many a siren voice. Angelic voices and bawdy tavern deliveries make this band divine listening when they invite guest artists during the month of March for their larger shows. The Celtica shows may include pipes and they join forces with fiddlers and high step dancers from time to time. Electronically, the band uses affects units on the flute. Primarily the band has a following of 30 and 40-year olds who enjoy the affects units and the traditional-music audience includes 20 to 80-year olds at shows. Wide appeal! Members of the year-round band include Rich Grace, singer/guitar/banjo/harmonica; Steve Catania of world-renown, Catania Folk Instruments, on mandolin/dulcimer/bohdron; and Flora Eyster (five-time award winning grant recipient) on the wooden and silver flutes (rosewood, C flute, alto flute, bass flute), recorders, penny whistles and percussion family. Seasonal performing artist, Bill Stetz, joins Celtica on upright bass and vocals. GUEST ARTIST 2018- ANNOUNCING JEFF WISOR, FIDDLER, AS CELTICA GUEST ARTIST 2017.
