In life, opportunities sometimes avail themselves to us and it is the creator’s way of telling us that this is what we were here for, or that this is our destiny. Having said this it is up to us to take it to the streets and to set the challenge to fulfill that destiny. Well, on this day the 15th January 1981, this star was born. Nigel Shomar Nicholas, a star in all his glory was born on this day in January to modest parents who asked for a healthy baby and nothing more. Nigel is from a family of 3 an only child and it is said that he was a musician from months old. If you know Nigel, you will believe this. Some kids are said to be kicking in their mom’s womb but Nigel must have been singing. For it is at three (3) months old that his mom realized his love for music. After Nigel’s birth and continuing year of public education, an early view was determined by his parents and friends. Nigel had talent. He had the ability to be spontaneous and innovative. With a captivating style, with ability to diverse, yet still able to fuse a beat with a line. Nigel accredits a lot of his innovative style to Jamaican super star Spragga Benz. The highly Acclaimed reggae mega star was responsible somewhat, for fulfilling Nigel’s desire to mix dub and soca, early in his musical career. Hence at Secondary school he meet with Kirby St. Clair to ignite the group “Phive Stat Fleet” and Nigel along with Marvin (Marvelous) Joseph, Jonathan Henry and Buddy … , blew up the sound stage. Nigel can be credited for performances with Chucky Star at the Zone, DT out of DN5, DBT Jam for U.S, and record label David Radigan Sound System, one of England most reputable Sound System, vybz kartel, tallpree, long island carnival, just to name a few. In 1998 Nigel recorded his first single, Fabulous Styles which was a huge hit at (Ice Cold Productions). In 1999 Nigel released his first soca single “Border Line”, the second master piece and this was a blast, braking territorial barriers all over the Caribbean and even being featured on the charts for “Top Soca Single” for numerous weeks in England. This song blew out all likes as it was featured on the Soca Flavas compilation against the dynamic sounds of Square One, Bunji Garlin, Steven Q and TC to name a few. The real test came when in 2001 this group broke up and Nigel went solo. Amidst all peculation Nigel released Stamina (Puss Puss) another super hit competing against some of the big names in the business like Denise Plummer, tallpree, rupee and others. Then the latest hit came Wine Like You Mad in 2002 and that track is still making history, it is probably Nigel’s biggest hit. Although the critics might say it is one of his other tracks. IN 2003 nigel link wit family members shervon nicholas & courntey louis to form a soca group called G.O.B. G.O.B WAS LIKE THE SOCA G UNIT, AND STORMED THE AIRWAVES REGIONALLY, WITH TRACKS LIKE : BLAZE IT UP WE LOVE IT PRESENTLY NIGEL HAS DONE COLLABORATIONS WITH SOCA STAR TALLPREE, AND IS SCHEDULED 2 RELEASE AN ALBUM BY CARNIVAL NEXT YEAR.
