I was born on Vancouver Island in Canada, where a number of extremely talented musicians have sprouted such as Diana Krall and Nelly Fertado. I also have dual citizenship with Australia, and spend a great deal of time there when not emmersed in work in Japan where, I am busiest performing and working as a musician. My true passion is songwriting and I've been studying the craft for some time now. It seems no matter where I am or what I am doing, I always have a new song brewing in my head. It is definately one of the main motivaters in my life. I've just finished recording my 4th CD and it should be available in mid May. I love performing on stage or where-have-you. I have performed at almost every type of venue including T.V., radio, film, festivals, weddings, clubs, bars, and even the streets. I was a busker for a big part of my teenage years and it really helped define my skills and personality. Recently, I am also used as a hired songwriter, producer, and lyricist for other artists/companies. I speak English and Japanese and feel knowing a second language has altered the way I view the world and it is reflected in my lyrics. In my spare time I love to play Ice-hockey, do triathlons, snowboard, watch a great movie or DVD. I also love photography and DV Video and recently just won a contest in Japan for a 5 minute DV I made called "Around the World in 5 minutes". I love to get outside as much as possible. There is a very cool river walking distance from my place here in Japan that I often take the guitar to and chill. I love four seasons, but summer is the best. I love hanging with friends or relaxing alone, or listening to music of other upcoming artists. Any questions, feel free to email. I look forward to hearing from you. Kelly Pettit.
I've been performing and writing songs since I can remember.
Yes. I play live almost 5 days a week. Playing with Cory Churko (corychurko.com) in our twenties and also hanging out with Crowded House are highlights. Actually, I have a lot of moments in my music career I wont forget. That's a tough one
I am currently listening to Jamie Cullum, Theory of a Deadman, Nine Inch Nails, Kings of Convenience, Maroon 5, Switchfoot, Northey and Valenzuela, Damn the Diva, Jayhawks, Howie Day, Golden Smog, Gavin DeGraw, Jack Johnson, Ben Harper, etc. Bands that had an impact on me include Neil Finn, Beatles, Jason Mraz, Van Halen, Great Big Sea, Hothouse Flowers, Paul Simon, Sting, Billy Joel, Led Zepplin, Blue Rodeo, Waterboys, Things of Stone and Wood, Crowded House, Paul Kelly, Odds, U2, Del Amitri, Barenaked Ladies, Toad the Wet Sprocket, . and I'm sure there's a hell of a lot more if I could just pull them out of this head of mine right now.
Yep, not an electronica band. But have tons of gear.
It's a tough age for Musicians. I hope the listeners out there are supportive for all of us. We can't continue to make music if we can't get any revenue from it. On the same token, if it weren't for the listeners, we wouldn't be here at all!
