My new CD, "Rooney Tunes-Phaces of Love" is now available at: rooneytunesmusic.com as well as CDBaby.com, iTunes.com, napster.com, and many other online digital stores. Hi, my name is Michael Rooney and my band is Rooney Tunes. I write and sing my music, play piano, keyboards and synthesizers, trombone, flute, recorder, percussion, and anything else I can pull off. I use some excellent session players also when needed,(the're friends too), usually a drummer, bass player and saxaphone, or whatever a paticular song calls for. It's great fun, enjoy.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
I play live in a big band on lead trombone and some flute solo, and I perform the Rooney Tunes whenever and wherever I can; usually in informal settings like the nearest piano!
Your musical influences
I have influences from many places: big band music like Maynard Ferguson; much classical music; as well as various musicians and genres like: Steely Dan, James Taylor, Gino Vannelli, Joni Mitchell, Pat Metheney, Billy Joel, Seal, Michael Franks, Boz Scaggs, Kenny Loggins, Styx, Dan Fogelberg, Frank Zappa, and many, many others...
What equipment do you use?
I am a bit of a purist in that I like to use natural instruments as much as possible,(at least on this CD). Music played directly by people has a soulfullness about it since there is a human spirit connected and running through the instrument; and you can feel that in the music. I use grand piano, a real drummer,(we record the basic tracks live in the studio with no overdubbing), and real instuments like trombone, flute, trumpet, saxaphone, recorder, vocals, etc. Some synthesizer here and there. I also have a "less is more" philosophy to my production.
My new cd was released October 12th, 2006. Pick one up today at: rooneytunesmusic.com, iTunes.com, cdbaby.com, napster.com, and many other digital online music stores.
