Son de Baires - Two Voices for Tango.Matias Hacker
and Mariana Martinez Vieyra SING AND DANCE tango
milonga, candombe, vals ,rancheras.In 1998
they decided that two singers were enough to start
up a new band.On stage and in studio Mariana and Matias always welcome renowned musicians. Not only those with a traditional tango background, in fact SON DE BAIRES starting-point was the search for new perspectives, a well-founded approach to tango music, poetry, dance,a search for new ways to put it on stage, going beyond the tango-for-export phormula. This is because TANGO is a lot more than a sensual music for dancers. It's a fascinating universe of poetry and music.Born in Buenos Aires, city of inmigrants, it now belongs to the world, and reflects the life
in today 's macropolis.Worldwide Argentinian writer Jorge Luis Borges put it this way: "Did the ships sail down this muddy river of dreams to found my homeland?...I think the founding of Buenos Aires was a mere fairytale; I believe it eternal, like the water and the air." So is tango and SON DE BAIRES is here to stay.
Being a profesional singer and being born in Buenos Aires inevitably leads to tango.Son de Baires was born in 1997 when Matias Hacker and Mariana Martinez Vieyra decided that two singers were emough to start a band.As a matter of fact, it was a singer: Carlos Gardel who first introduced tango to the world-he even signed contract with Paramount Pictures, one of his movies being called: El Tango en Broadway. When on stage, Son de Baires welcomes renowned tango musicians such as bandoneonists Walter Rios and Roberto Pansera, Bartolomé Palermo (guitarra criolla) Ruben Nazer (piano)Shows: Ser Porteño 1998-1999 recorded live at Academia Porteña del Lunfardo in Buenos Aires and Amores de Tango 1999-2000 at Buenos Aires Bauen Hotel, Oliverio ALlways cafe concert are the result of a well-grounded and inspiring approach to tango music and poetry.Regarded us tango new protagonists (B.A Tango-Argentina-Tangoneón-Spain-Mariana Martinez Vieyra and Matias Hacker are here to stay!
Yes.Small pubs, cafe concerts.Last year at Oliverio ALlways - a few steps off Corrientes Ave.- we were playing our show Amores de Tango from June to October.Besides we are usually hired to play for private parties, special events. Also in
academic circles, i.e at Buenos Aires Academia Porteña del Lunfardo- full house- last May 23rd!
we played highlights of Amores de Tango.
We get a great feedback from people of diferent generations- tangueros and "tangueros-to-be"
We think this is due to the fact that we work hard on the choice of repertoire-story, energy and atmosphere of each song and the show as a whole.
Introductory codas of other tangos with a related subject, recitados -verses- help to create different atmosphere.People realise when you're commited to what you're doing- Playing live is great it's a renewed challenge every time you
are in front of a different audience.
Another side of the challenge.Deciding on the musicians for each show we are going to put on stage. Some of the musicians that have accompanied us: bandoneonist Walter Rios, Roberto Pansera,
guitarist Bartolomé Palermo and Ruben Nazer
- who used to be Armando Pontier's pianist.
Carlos Gardel, Anibal Troilo,Astor Piazzolla, Tita Merello, Rosita Quiroga.Latin American artists such as Mercedes Sosa,Atahualpa Yupanqui.
Thank you for hosting us.We'll give the best of us in return.
