The Sillies

The Sillies
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
The Sillies formed April 1977. Their debut was second billing to The MC5 with Destroy All Monsters (Ron Asheton of Iggy & The Stooges plus MC5 bassist Mike Davis)as the opening act. The Sillies toured the U.S. and Canada, played shows with The Damned, The Dead Boys, Johnny Thunders & The Heartbreakers, The Cramps, and many others. Last year's Christmas show had 225 slamdancing Santas, go-go dancing Santa's helpers, and reindeer strippers. See the video at www.thesillies.com!
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
We've played live and near-death at CBGB in NYC, Spaceland in LA, the Los Angeles Colusseum (Warped Tour), The Horseshoe (Toronto), Hart Plaza (Detroit), San Francisco, Chicago, Cleveland, etc. We'd play more often, but it's easier just to sit at home and play with ourselves (musically).
Your musical influences
The Byrds, Roger (Jim) McGuinn, The Stooges, Iggy, The MC5, NY Dolls, Roxy Music, Ultravox, Wire, The Damned, Brian Jones' Rolling Stones, Buzzcocks, Beatles, Velvet Underground, Wheeler & Woolsey.
What equipment do you use?
Epiphone Firebird VII, Epiphone 1958 Flying V, Epiphone ES-335, Epiphone SG, Italia Monza (with humbuckers), Campbell-Maccaferri "SC" guitar with three humbuckers (www.campbellguitars.com) piano, organ, and a Mellotron, for that "Moody Blues" sound.
