Band/artist history
Ynot Nosnibor is decades in the making. Since I was a kid growing up in Hampton (Virginia), I knew that I was a band leader, but this takes time to mature and develop. I've had five bands before this reaching this point. Four played my original Jazz-fusion & Afro-Latin oriented music and one was a tribute to Miles Davis. You, go through stages. Meeting musicians, learning yourself, the art, how to deal with other people as well as the business aspect of things. Everyday you mess up and learn something new. Playing behind other artist helped me out a lot too. It primarily taught me what NOT to do. I saw where I didn't want to be, so that makes it a bit easier to direct myself to where I want to be... where i need to be. Before my latest record, I released 3 other recordings. The first is 2006 was crap, but it gave birth to "Shalom" with has reached the top 100 on SoundClick's World-fusion charts, so everything has a beginning. If we look at that, Ynot Nosnibor actually began in 2005/2006 with the release of "Shalom"; that was the seed being planted. Officially, the concept didn't come about until 2009, when I was just completely turned off by record labels. I released my third CD, Explode, and was unhappy with how it was handle by the label. So I decided to go DIY. Everything I could do on my own, I would. If I couldn't, I would assemble a team to handle it for me... the way I believed it should be handled. That brings me to today. On March 16, 2010 My Heart's Rise will release along with my first book, My Heart's Rise: Inspirations Behind the Music. On my own label, my budget, my management and promotion firm etc. That way if it fails, its because I didn't work!
Have you performed in front of an audience?
Yes, live playing is a major part of what I do not only with as Nosnibor but supporting other artist as a drummer/percussionist, guitarist etc. I can't really point out any overly special performances. Each one is special simply for that fact that I get to perform for a living, so I try not to take any show lightly. Of course, I love performing. I'm a musician, first, before anything else. Thats what musicians do... we perform.
Your musical influences
I have such a broad spectrum of musical influence. As far as composition, my main heroes are Yanni, Kitaro and Ravi Shankar. I have literally taken from all major genres of music. Jeff Beck (Instrumental Rock), Chick Corea (Fusion), Miles Davis (Bebop Jazz), Gipsy Kings (World), Yanni (Pop Instrumental), Kitaro (New-Age), Dream Theater (Prog Metal), Bon Jovi (Stadium Rock), Dave Matthews (Jam), Robert Cray (Blues), Santana (Latin-Rock), Poncho Sanchez (Latin Jazz), Ravi Shankar (Trad. Indian), Ustad Manouchehr Sadeghi (Persian Music), Keith Urban (Country)... Do I really need to ramble on?
What equipment do you use?
In the studio: Yamaha Motif Keyboard, Behringer/Peavey/Roland digital & Analog mixers, Apple computers with Apple Logic Pro8 for DAW, Focusrite Outboard Processors, Shure Microphones and some other stuff. Live: Peace Drums (Endorsee since 2008), Saluda Cymbals (Endorsee since 2006), Fender Guitars, Various Percussion (Congas, Bongo, Timbales), Bugera Amplifiers, Randall Amplifiers.
