Band/artist history
Rechela was born in the USA. At the age of 7 she began to study voice with Bill Hunter, an American teacher, who taught at the Lee Strasberg Theater and Film Institute in New York. Rechela continued to sing and study music throughout her high school years. Rechela skipped a grade and graduated High School at the age of 17. After her graduation Rechela was involved in a very bad car accident; during her recovery she travelled to the Sinai Pennisula, in Egypt, on the Red Sea and fell in love with the desert and the Bedouin culture. The desert rhythm suited her inner beat. Due to a unique and spontaneous connection that Rechela had with the Bedouins; specifically the women and children, she was able to learn to speak fluent Arabic in just a matter of months. Today she speaks Arabic as fluently as her mother tongue. Her connection to the Bedouin (Khaleeji) music was just another natural connection. Even though the origin of the Khaleeji Music (Gulf Music) is in Saudia Arabia and the Gulf States, it echoes all the way to the Sinai and vibrates in every Wadi. Rechela began to collect cassettes in order to learn to sing the Bedouin songs as well as to write and to compose her own songs. In 2001, Rechela together with Hisham Abu Metaig, a Jordanian Oud artist, formed an ensemble and began performing. During this time she also formed another ensemble in Sinai with Selim Soleyman, who plays Oud and Semsemia. Rechela performed with Selim in some of the most luxurious hotels in Sinai as well as in the most remote parts of the Sinai desert. A year later Rechela, Hisham, and Selim began recording a CD with Gadi Seri who played percussion and together with Rechela was responsible for the production of the CD. The group recorded in Mark Smulian’s digihipi Studio, mixes were in the studios of Lior Shoshan and Udi Turgeman and mastered by Yoad Navo in London, England. All of the songs speak of a yearning for love and the desert, and were mostly written by Saudi princes. Five songs on the album were written by Prince Khaled al Faisel and have already been adapted by other Khaleeji (Gulf music) singers amongst them: Mohammed Abdu, Rashid al Majed, Abed al Majid Abdullah, Mihad Hamed and Khaled Abdul Rahman. The career of Rechela has been paved with bold and creative achievements.
