The Splitting Hares is a husband and wife team. Over the years we have played in several bands and if there is a small town in the southeastern US that you have never heard of - chances are we have played there.
The idea behind this project was kind of to break away from the typical cover band/bar scene that we were so used to and just play and record whatever we felt like doing. We have had little experience in recording studios making only the occasional demo. We purchased a DAW, a few microphones, and a few other little pieces, and just like that...we had our own music studio. Sort of. We are not engineers, we do not have a sound treated room, but we like making music - originals, covers, anything! The stuff we have put on our page here was done at home - the mixes you hear are not highly polished masters, please bear with us while we continue to learn about the wonderful world of home recording.
Eric Almlie: All guitars, bass, backing vocals
Kat Almlie: All drums and percussion, lead and backing vocals, bass on Tangled In You
We are not after a particular sound and do not discriminate against any style or genre. So there might be a variety of stuff we post here. THANKS FOR LISTENING!
Presently, as The Slitting Hares, we are not playing live. Together we have played in hundreds of shows in other bands and projects - Key West was probably the coolest spot we have ever played. The most unique - a local mental hospital - hey, they dug us, especially after their meds kicked in!!!
The Beatles, Cheap Trick, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Concrete Blonde, Heart to name a few. Our record and CD collection literally begins at Abba and ends at ZZ Top.
Eric's guitar influences include anyone he has ever heard play a guitar. But to name some specifically there would be Randy Rhodes, David Gilmour, Rick Nielsen, Elliot Easton, James Mankey, and Stevie Ray Vaughn.
Kat's drumming influences include BUN E. CARLOS, Ringo Starr, John Bonham, Mick Fleetwood, Ian Paice, Mitch Mitchell, Ginger Baker, Charlie Watts, Alan White, David Robinson, Gina Schock, Karen Carpenter, Cindy Blackman, Phill Rudd, Dave Grohl
Kat's vocal influences: Robin Zander, Karen Carpenter, Paul McCartney, Pat Benatar, Sheryl Crow, Stevie Nicks, Joan Jett, Belinda Carlisle, Agnetha Folkskog.
Lots of drums, lots of guitars. All recorded and mixed down on a Yamaha AW1600 work station.
