Hi there, I'm Lightnin' Brown.
Band/artist history
I started guitar lessons in 1970, when I was 8 years old. I joined my first band 4 years later. I've spanked the plank in Blue's bands mainly, including "The Eliminators", "Howlin' Time", and "Whipping Post". I've also worked in progressive Jazz/Rock bands, and even an 8 piece Bluegrass band. I've scratched out a living as a guitar teacher at music shops and College's, and my own little studio on Mount Tamborine. Latley, I've been playing a lot of old Delta style Acoustic Blues.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
Do I play live? Lately, I've been playing around pubs, clubs and blues festivals, in Queensland Australia, with my good friend Mr BB Dog. I enjoy playing to people. Playing to yourself is kinda like telling yourself jokes. Special moments? I used to enjoy playing at the Melbourne Blues Appreciation Society every monday night. It was held at a little pub in Windsor, and the audience just loved the blues. Every time you'd pull a lick, they'd cheer and whistle. I was used to playing at stinkin' dive's where people didn't really care what licks you played.
Your musical influences
My very first influence, when I was a little kid, were some local Blues guitarists. These guys were hot, and they taught me lots of things. The first recording artist that I would call an influence would be Johnny Winter. I was diggin' his stuff back in High school while my friends were into Led Zep and Deep Purple. I'm also influenced by Ry Cooder, Leo Kottke, Robben Ford, Albert Collins, SRV, Hendrix, Steve Vai, early Muddy Waters, as well as a host of pre-war guitarists; including Tampa Red, Bukka White, Blind Willie Johnson, Kokomo Arnold and Robert Johnson.
What equipment do you use?
1980 Maton Messiah 6 string acoustic. 1931 National Duolian. 1932 Wayne Spider Resonator. 1978 Fender Sunburst Strat, set up for slide. Custom made "Soundworks" Stratocaster. Fender "Custom Shop" Dual Professional 100w amp. Custom made Pedal Board. P.A. and recording gear.
Anything else?
Thankyou for taking the time to read about me. Hope you enjoy my music. LB.
