This is my creative outlet. A portfolio of everything that hasn't made it into any bands! I experiment with all kinds of guitar effects and use sequencing to put together a lot of the backing tracks. Its been a big learning process, although my first attempts at recording (which I fudged up completely) have resulted in some of my favourite songs. Anyway this 'theft' thing has been going on for a good 4/5 years now, and nearly all of my songs are available from my music page. I can't attribute the music to any particular genre as it covers such a wide range, and you can't get an idea of what I'm about just by listening to one song :D
This started in 2003 when I downloaded a copy of Audacity. AWN started in 03-04 and lasted about 3 years. We achieved some success on local radio and played some pretty great gigs, but in the end we lost interest in it. Half of us split up to form an ambient post rock group called Järvi in 2008, which includes trumpet, trombone, viola, guitar, bass, drums, glockenspiels, synthesisers and sequenced backing tracks. The sound guy always has a heart attack when we turn up with our stuff but we've always managed to pull it off so far (touch wood)!
Yep, the stage is my favourite place. My main bands have been AWN and Järvi, and I've done a lot of stuff on the side for various people. I'm glad I met all of them as those sessions have really widened my perspectives on music.
Big range of musicians. I love spacey/psychedelic music, as well as most kinds of jazz and prog rock. You will hear those influences the most in my songs. My favourite artists include Sigur Ros, Mogwai, Pink Floyd, 65daysofstatic, Aphex Twin, Tangerine Dream, King Crimson, Pat Metheny, Bela Fleck etc.
Fender 57' Reissue strat (MI1982). One of the first to come over, nicely aged and well played. Gorgeous sound! Tanglewood Les Paul, heavily modded, sounds badass and plays like a gibby. Univoxx Hi-Flyer tribute, white/cream, with P-90's and bigsby, very retro guitar and retro finish! Yamaha Pacifica copy, bit rubbish. Hand built Precision bass, actually from late 1950's but of unknown origin. Ashbury cedar folk, one of the best acoustic guitars I've played in a long time. Yamaha APX-4a, nice light acoustic. Ampwise, I have a custom made Curzon head/cab. Its 18 watts class A and contains mullards and tagboard wiring. A sessionette 75 tranny amp from the 80's, which has a great JC-120 sort of clean sound. A Fender Champ 600, with a mullard. I have a Tonelab SE modelling pedal, Visual Sound Jekyll & Hyde distortion and Rocktron Short Timer delay. I also have a Yamaha PSR-295 keyboard/MIDI controller, and a Microkorg analogue synth.
