Departure

This song is about letting go, and is a punchy track with a driving drop-d riff that fits in well with a progressive drum n bass line.
Xenon comprises of four musicians. In fact, Xenon has always been the quintessential four-piece band perhaps this has something to do with the symmetry of four rockers giving their best on stage. While the band has seen numerous line-up changes in the past three years, some of them including Mumbai’s finest musicians, the current line-up is the steadiest. Over the last few years, Xenon has experimented with a lot of genres as the members strived to find their identity, and have now settled on one Melodic Metal. They have composed six songs that were recorded recently. They plan to release an EP by the year end or early next year. Xenon became popular initially by covering songs of a very special band Iron Maiden. The band effortlessly belts out songs by the legendary band, and it is a treat to watch them do justice to these songs. They also cover bands like Judas Priest, Queensryche, Deep Purple, Van Halen, Blue Oyster Cult, Pink Floyd, Dire Straits, Black Sabbath, U2, Joe Satriani, and Yngwie Malmsteen, to name a few.
Band/artist history
Xenon was formed on 2nd April 2000, and included Ashu, Som, Rohit, and Shaun. As far as musical abilities go they were all kids back then, but somehow they managed to pull off a pretty good show on the 16th of the same month!! Shaun was forced to leave the band soon, owing to his failure to clear his FYBA (the band denies all responsibility for the same). Xenon got back in July with Eddie on bass(he later joined Thor), but somehow that lineup didn’t work. In December, Ashu obsessed with the thought of playing Mood I reformed the band, with the original lineup, minus Rohit. They soon settled on Bryan as their new guitarist, and this proved to be quite a steady lineup. They went on to do a number of good shows, despite the normal tensions within the band, owing to the presence of two equally stubborn and psychopathic individuals. In Feb 2001, Bryan was thrown out of the band, because of his refusal to turn up for a show, unless Som picked him up. The band continued, playing three-piece for a while, but Bryan was finally recalled in June. This lineup again didn’t last long as Som quit the band in early November. Ashu then brought in Vineet, who was himself a Xenon fan. Bryan and Shaun had their doubts and were skeptical about Vineet’s drumming skills, since he never got through a single song without stopping at least once. But he soon proved himself, and settled in. In fact he’s probably the best thing that happened to Xenon. What’s even more surprising was the fact that he’d only been playing for three months before joining the band. Xenon then shot to popularity with their tribute to Iron Maiden nite at Razz on 20th December 2001, which was followed up by their victory at Rock Divine on 19th Jan 2002. The band stuck with this lineup doing shows for a long time, and looked as if there’d be no turning back, but in late August Bryan left the band, and he was replaced by Bjorn in October. Bjorn was prodigal on guitars and the band played some pro gigs like Halloween Rock and Tremors II with this lineup. Unfortunately Bjorn quit the band in December 2003. Xenon went on to play Live Wire 2003 three piece, made it to the finals, and finished third out of 50 bands! The most recent development is the recruitment of ace gutiarist Dean Lazarus. Dean formed Bhrama back in 1994, and this is his second band. With this powerful new lineup, Xenon is all set to rock in 2004!
Have you performed in front of an audience?
We play live at Pub gigs and college fests and try and get a few professional gigs. In 2004 we aim to play as many pro gigs as possible.
Your musical influences
Our music is best described as melodic progressive metal. This does not mean that we blindly experiment with strange counts (which is the general opinion on what prog is), but we try to push ourselves to create songs that combine the honesty of metal with the harmony of softer genres. (And we do throw in a few odd counts :))
What equipment do you use?
Ashu - Ibanez RG 270 DX with Dimarzio Freds/ Boss GT6 Dean - Ibanez RG 550 DX / Digitach RP1 Shaun - Ibanez GRX Bass / Zoom 506B Vineet - Gladnick Drumkit
