Pastel Skies

Sunsets are inspiring. This song aims to capture all the glory of one particular sunset that was incredible in all ways. Pastel colors, bright, deep, soft, and all reflecting on waters below.
Music... My entire life, music has been the "driving force" in everything that I've done. I started taking piano lessons at the age of 6, played in bands all through high school, graduated with a degree in piano from college, and all the while learned as much as I could about the recording studio by working as a session musician and learning the art of recording. To me, music can be visualized by colors. Every sound that you hear has a particular color attached to it and likewise, so does every emotion. That's what I'm attempting to capture in my music. I want to take emotions that are a part of one's natural life and "paint" a picture into my musical landscapes. Before I write a song, I name it. That name is a "hint" as to what I was thinking of. Then the sounds that I used, the melody, the counter-melodies, rhythms, etc. are all part of the final scene. I hope you enjoy my attempts at capturing an emotion for a moment in time....
Band/artist history
This is the fun part. I was a child of the 60's. I grew up listening to the Beatles, playing guitar and taking piano lessons. While still in high school I was lucky enough to be one of the only piano players in town, so the only 8 track recording studio in our area called me in for a few sessions and the next thing I knew, I was working there all the time. Soon, I was bitten by the recording bug! Thanks to the kindly engineer, Orville Atwood, (who has long since past),was willing to take me under his arm, and show me what was going on. Orville, I'll always appreciate you... I decided to major in Piano while still in high school and during my college years; I actually went to New York for engineering studies and wound up in Woodstock where I met some influential people. After graduation, I opened my own recording studio, had a very successful band called The Rumblers, owned a large music store called Fantasy Music and because of my interest of synthesizers (which had been on-going for years), I started working on my own music. Of course, today, I have my own studio and I'm currently working on a completely new collection of tunes other than the ones that are currently here...
Have you performed in front of an audience?
While I played live for years in a very popular band called "The Rumblers". The particular music represented here doesn't reflect the music that I played live. Yes, I loved playing live because The Rumblers played to mostly "sold out" crowds and it was very exciting. Probably the best show was when we performed to a crowd of 7500 live when an unbelievable torrent of rain started. The band had a policy of never playing live shows unless there was complete cover for the band, but it was raining so hard that we expected to stop anyway. Evidently, the crowd didn't. We played straight through a 15 minute sheet of rain and the crowd never missed a beat! Pictures from that show still amaze me. You can barely make out the audience at times because of the amount of rain coming down.
Your musical influences
Simply put, being classically trained, I must mention Debussy but my true love was the music of The Beatles. There is just something about the way that they constructed their music that actually holds up to the music of "the Masters". I remember studying Beatle's music in Form and Analysis class while in college and the motion, movements, etc. are just perfect. The gift was just given to them. Other artists that I admire are XTC, Enya, and artists such as Leon Russell and George Duke, plus a lot more.
What equipment do you use?
Since I use a lot of synths, I thought that I might mention some of my gear. I currently use Cakewalk's Sonar 7 as my main sequencer along with Cubase 4, WaveLab 6 and Acid 4. I also use a large number of softsynths with my favorites including Native Instruments Absynth 3, FM7, B4 II, Elektrik Piano, Kontakt 2, Kompakt, Reaktor 5, IK Multimedia's SampleTank 2XL, Spectrasonic's Trilogy and Atmosphere, EastWest Quantum Labs Symphony Orchestra, Fxpansion's BFD, GMedia's ImpOSCar, M-Tron, USB's Ultra Focus and many more! I also use a Tascam FW-1884 mixing console/control surface along with a number of outboard processing and my main monitors in the studio are Alesis ProLinear 820 DSP's (which sound awesome by the way!) You can also read a number of my reviews on softsynths at www.cakewalknet.com.
Anything else?
I just that I hope that anyone who visits this site understands that I'm just a regular guy and I would love to hear from you. I do want to point out that most of the music that is currently up is actually music that I made "a while back" and my current music will be up very soon. If you have any questions, thoughts, etc. please don't hesitate to email me! Thanks for dropping in.
