When Will I See You Again?
Band/artist history
I started making a lot of electronic compositions in the year 2000 under the name BlueNile101. Just me, a computer, and a program with a variety of beats and sounds. It was a lot of fun. During that time it was simply just a hobby, something I did to pass the time away. I enjoyed making tracks that were upbeat and fun. But as my life started to change, so did my taste in music. In 2005 I purchased my first guitar, a Taylor Big Baby. Of all the guitars I have looked at, Taylor had a sound and feel that was unlike any other. It was almost as if the guitar picked me. As I taught myself to play I started to explore the musical possibilities I could express with an acoustic guitar. It was very different compared to making dance beats. I had no idea that I was entering a whole new world that would change my life forever. In late 2008 my life was heading in an unknown direction and the world started to change around me. The emotions that come from fear, uncertainty, heartbreak, and loneliness, are very powerful forces. I found myself needing an outlet, a place to put it all. This when I started to take music on a deeper, more personal level, to help me cope with this ever changing reality. I'll never forget the first time I put myself in front of fear to face it with music. In early 2009, with the help and guidance of my friends, I recorded my first song entitled "A Place For You and Me". It is here where I took my own lyrics and my own music and put them together. It is also here where I sing for the first time. This was something I have never done before in my life. And as afraid as I may have felt to put myself out there like that, to put myself in a vulnerable place and express these deep emotions that were brewing up inside of me, somewhere inside was a drive to let it all out. So, for a brief moment, I put that fear aside. I put myself outside of my comfort zone and I did it. Afterwards, my perception of reality changed and I felt awakened for the first time. I think I found my outlet. From then on, I started writing and recording songs that reflected what I was feeling in the world around me. The music that I was creating helped me express these feelings. I was able to get them out. From there, I was able to look back at them, listen to what it was I created, analyze it, and move on. For the first time, I felt free. I found the whole creative process extremely therapeutic and I started to see things in a whole new light. I wanted more and I was excited for the possibilities. You can look at every album I have ever put out as a musical journal of sorts. Everything expressed through my music is ultimately a reflection of myself in the world around me. And as the years go by, my sound, my music, starts to evolve and grow. My first album had a lot of vocal tracks because I had a lot let out and express. But as time went on, I became more of an instrumental artist. It wasn't a conscious decision. It's just where the music took me. Thinking on it, I liked the idea of letting the music be left to interpretation. And the instrumental acoustics and sounds layered on top of the tracks resonated with me. So I just kept at it.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
I have performed a couple times in front of an audience for a school district annual gala event. One year, it was outside as staff members entered the event. The next year, I performed on stage for everyone as part of the event. It was a thrilling experience as I have never done that before.
Your musical influences
I listen to a variety of music. From full orchestras, to hard rock/metal, to 8-bit chiptunes. Variety is the spice of life. When it comes to the sound I create in my music, I take influences from bands/artists like The Album Leaf, VAST, ASHES dIVIDE, A Perfect Circle
