Banda Celtamericana is a chilean celtic band, who plays celtic traditional tunes as well as their compositions, and mixing celtic and latin american instruments.
Band/artist history
Banda celtamericana is made up by 6 young musicians coming from north, central and southern Chile. Its repertoire is mainly based on their own compositions plus traditional music founded on the so called celtic musical tradition, adding to this mix latin american musical elements such as instruments, rhythms and melodies.
Since October 2002 the band members started to work together as Nimloth playing traditional music from countries such as Ireland, Scotland and the NW regions of Spain of Asturias and Galicia. This work has been sponsored with sucessive state grants from the chilean Fondo de la Música to record and nationally tour the CD "Puerto Celta: Celtic Music from Valparaíso", including there most of the musical work done from 2002 to 2005. From late 2005 the band project starts to be known as banda celtamericana.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
We are actually doing a tour in Chile, with the support of the Department of Culture of the Government of Chile.
Your musical influences
Well, many acoustic bands like Flairck, Flook, chilean folk bands like Inti-Illimani, Quilapayun, and Ortiga, and celtic bands as Luar na Lubre, The Chieftains, and many others
What equipment do you use?
Acoustic instruments: Guitars, Irish Bozouki, Whistles, Flutes, Accordion, Bodhran, Cajon Peruano, Charango, and many other accesories and latin american percussions
Anything else?
We're very happy of the reactions of the people when they hear our work. We're not trying to replace the traditional celtic music, but give it a new perspective, from our latin american point of view...
And thanks a lot for this space
