Funky Rockin Blues with Americana/Rockabilly undertones with lots of energy and passion from a hard working Florida blues band.
Back Alley Blues Band is a Florida-based band that doesn't sound like your father's blues band... Crossing the "lines" and not being stuck in "the same old shuffles" this band can move the blues on people in more ways than one!
Mixing in the diverse influences and experiences all the members bring to the table, Back Alley Blues Band has a style it can call its own. Funky, rockin' blues are the sounds you will find here, mixed with a dash of Rockabilly and Americana stylings to boot. Not that the band couldn't play a traditional blues style, but why sound like everybody else?
There is a wide range of styles on display here, from the '60s Texas-style opener of "My Baby Caught The Train", the swamp-style ballad "Even Angels Get The Blues", the Bo Diddley inspired "Queen Of Hearts", the rockabilly rave-up "Oh Well", to acoustic flavored tunes like "Chihuahua Blues" and the traditional "Mississippi Blues".
This band is no fly-by-night operation, or a band of assembled studio musicians-Back Alley Blues Band has been around Tampa Bay, Florida going on 10 years now, playing every chance that comes our way, each time letting the soul of the music out of our hearts and into the ears of our listeners.Band/artist history
The Back Alley Blues Band was originally formed in November, 1996 by Franc Robert (Guitar/Vocals), and Smokin Joe Sadowski (Harp/vocals). The band started out playing true hard core Chicago Blues (think Muddy Waters, Junior Wells, Little Walter, Buddy Guy, and many others), mixed with the best of the Texas/Louisiana style (think T-Bone Walker, Slim Harpo, The Faboulous Thunderbirds, SRV, and more). After going through numerous rhythm section members over the years, the band found Don Cox (bass) and David Simmons (drums) in May, 2002 and has been in this form ever since. The resulting combination has been creating an exciting, dancable brand of blues that has won over blues fans and bar patrons all over Pasco and Pinellas Counties, in the great state of Florida. In August of 2004, we released our first CD (right in the middle of Hurricane Charley!) and have started playing more fesitvals and large events. Our new CD, entitled "Boxcar Tourists" is now available at CD Baby. For 2006, we will be playing more all around Florida, including our usual west coast haunts, and more festivals.Have you performed in front of an audience?Almost every weekend we're playing. Everything from private parties to fairly large festivals (2,000+ concertgoers)-there's always a gig we're playing next weekend. This band lives to play live-not that studio work isn't bad, but the feedback you receive (especially when it's one of your own songs!) is immeasurable.
