Away For Slates
Band/artist history
In early September of 2003, Steve Krych and Justin Simas of the band Sincerly Spoon and Lee Horton and Mike Brennan of the band Rhymeswithvenus merged together to form another band.
The guys had one practice together playing simple cover songs and writing two songs. At that moment, they knew that they had a solid foundation and everything that was needed in a band.
So with their two songs and a few covers, they played their first live show together. It wasn't much. Just a talent show at Sir Wilfred Laurier Secondary School.
Spoon and Venus had been getting shows from a local promoter, named Kevin. He would get shows at Call The Office, LUSO Centre, and Stonehendge. He had called Justin one day not knowing that Spoon and Venus had broken up. He asked if they would like to play a show with local band Bordertown and the Luso Centre. Justin explained that Spoon and Venus were no longer together. In the end, they ended up playing with another band called Moon Goose. A very small crowd but, very possitive feedback.
Their third song entitled Quitters got the band into thinking about a recording. They got in contact with New Moon Studio's and made arrangements to record their first EP. That lead to the bands first CD release entitled Quitter EP.
The band has been writing and playing shows since, and is now sending their demo cd to record companies all over the US and Candada.
The band also plans on arranging an Ontario tour this summer with a few local London bands.
