
Austin Klezmorim
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
The oldest Klezmer band in the Southwest, the Austin Klezmorim have defined Texas Klez. Featuring some of the best musicians in the Lone Star State the band boogies their bulgars and struts the kosher BBQ.
In addition to the Freilakhs, Bulgars, Shers, Horas and Hongas, the Austin Klezmorim can light a fire in just about any style whether Jazz, Blues, Reggae, Cajun or Swing. They be Shpielin!
In addition to the standard gigs the Austin Klezmorim, as part of the Texas Commission on the Arts Touring Artist Roster conducts Lectures, Master Classes, and Workshops on Klezmer music theory, history, and performance in colleges, universities, secondary and private schools.
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
We are a Texas band. We play throughout the US but primarily in Texas.

Musical influences include Miles Davis, Mingus, Stravinsky, Beethoven, Mozart, Bartok, Satchmo, Prima, Bird, Dizzy, Curtis Mayfield, Dylan, Ellington, Crumb (both George and Robert), Austin Klezmorim, Bill Averbach, Roswelll Rudd, Many jazz players and composers
What equipment do you use?
I use a murray lawnmower for my yard and a French Besson Meha for my trumpet with a Bach 5C mouthpiece made in Mount Vernon, NY
I notate music using Finale but don't have it hooked up to a keyboard. I use my ears to hear and my eyes to see.
Anything else?
I love fishing.
I love cooking. (had a pizzeria - we made killer pizza)
I have a dream of owning a restaurant/jazz club/marina on the ocean.
