Attika

United Kingdom
April 26, 2004
Hey Y'all, We're Attika, we have: Colin Park: Guitar/vocals Gordon Johnstone: Guitar David Scott: Drums Gregg Hamilton: Bass
Band/artist history
Well, it all starts back in the fall of '02... Gordon and Drew were in a very unsucsessful band called Enema, and Parky was in a Band called Hektor. Both the bands split up and everyone went their seperate ways. Then one day when Gordon and Parky were cheating in an R.E exam, they started the Spunky Munkys, a new band. They got Drew in to drum and eventually Duncan in for Bass, then they changed their name to Coloursound. They played one gig at our local Universal Connections, which went rather well, then they chaged their name yet again, to Attica. The next gig was to come from another local band Urban Poetry, who asked us to support them at a gig at Crystals in E.K town centre. The gig went well, much fun was had with the smoke machine. Then Emergenza came along (It's the scouting agency for Columbia records). We played to the best of our abilities, but alas, we didn't get through to the next round. The another gig at the Key came along. The other band on the bill didn't turn up, so Attika were faced with an hour to fill and a large crowd of angsty teenagers. We played everything we knew, and some things we didn't... Gig went very well actually, everyone had a great time. Then came along our ultimate goal, RigRock 2004 (the school rock concert). We had been planning for this gig for months. Things went great for the first two songs, then half way through the 3rd one the guitars died. All the sound stoppped, and much cursing went on. The same happened for the last song, the guitars kept cutting out, but we soldiered on. We're not sure how we did yet. We decided with our recent songs etc, we thought we'd record a demo. Which was great, until Drew decided to pull out, which was fine. Seeing as though we didnt want to pay the cancellation fee, we decided to go ahead with it. Then, two days before the recording, Duncan pulled out along with Drew. So for the demo the band got David Scott (Zynk) in to play drums and Gregg Hamilton in to play Bass. The demo was released on the 10th of April, after the demo the band decided to recruit Gregg and David as full time members of the band. The demo is getting a positive reaction from everyone (Bar a few exeptions, they tend to be people with grudges i have to say...) and after the exams the band are going to start gigging, possibly a new demo. We'll just have to wait and see what happens.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
We play locally most of the time, but we'll take gigs anywhere as long as we can get there.
Your musical influences
Foo Fighters, Nirvana, some acoustic influences maybe. Mostly Dave Grohl.
What equipment do you use?
Colin uses a Mexican Strat, an Epiphone Flying V and a whole shit-load of pedals. Gordon uses an OLD MM1 guitar with some effects pedals, Gregg uses a Westfield bass and David uses whatever happens to be there.
Anything else?
Um...we recently had a change of lineup. The old bassist and drummer left, so Gregg and David kindly stepped in.
