As Sick As Us
As Sick As Us is a melodic death metal band like no other out of North Carolina creating new rhythms on the global progressive metal stage. ASAU is 'the missing link' that has injected a dynamic new sound to the scene. Our songs have many styles flowing through them and we twist into our music, like a piece of stranded rope, unique melodies incorporating influences both old and new from different genres. The resulting hybrid sound gives you an eclectic mix that is a break from the pack.
As Sick As Us was formed in 2008 by the brothers Zack and Zane Oskins. The group started like most bands do- young friends with a lot of energy, drums, guitars, amps and a garage. But what was unique about this particular set of friends was the individual talent each of them brought into the band. It was the 'perfect storm' that has now produced one of the hottest bands in the Southeast. Our songs all share a common denominator; They produce a visceral response in people who hear them.
As Sick As Us is a group receiving a LOT of attention across the Eastern U.S. and attracts a large age span of fans who like a wide variety of genres. Our songs invoke a host of reactions from crowds; everything from violently thrashing mosh-pits to people simply nodding their heads in approval with wide eyes and big grins on their faces. The response from the audience is spontaneous and sincere when we play. Visit our web sites and check us out. Try us... You'll like it too!
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
AS Sick As Us- Was formed in 2008 by the brothers Zachary and Zane Oskins. The group started like most bands do- young friends with a lot of energy, a drum set, guitars, amps and a garage. Our first gig was at a place called The Live Space, a proverbial hole-in-the-wall started by a friend. We were then offered a show at a new venue called The Boiler Room, which was just getting off the ground in downtown Asheville. After several gigs at these two spots the word was out that a new band with a great sound & tight playing was making a name for itself.
It's been nothing short of a runaway locomotive ever since with bookings and being on the road every week. We're out there putting every ounce of energy we have into getting our material in front of the public and playing our hearts out in this very unforgiving business called music... So far so good...
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
Going into 2011 we have played over 150 live performances. There are too many venues to name here. Our shows are spread all across the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic states. Top venues we've played include The Orange Peel, The Handlebar, Greene Street Club, Ground Zero, the list goes on and on. We will play any venue that will have us...
So far The Orange Peel in 2010 was by far our most exciting gig. With only three bands playing that night we pulled over 450 people to the venue for the evening. When AS Sick As Us took the stage at 9pm there was already more than 250 fans lined up in front of us yelling & screaming. It was quite a night to remember for all of us.
Your musical influences

We work and practice very hard. When we're not on the road we're in the garage practicing 3 and 4 times a week. As Sick As Us wants to put out the very best melt-your-face melodic metal for everyone to enjoy. We truly have a different sound and the talent to back it up.
