My condolences for having only budget equipment to work with (your backing piano and drums) - but like me, you may know that what is important is not the production or equipment, but the spirit and artistic content of the artist (and talent helps). Good equipment can be purchased in a day, the rest cannot. Keep working with the rest. (though commercially, you need the superficial aspects, so if you want to succeed commercially instead of artistically, buy better backing equipment - it is what the radio stations go for - a particular safe and familiar 'sound', meaning production and equipment).
