Hi, I'm Liesa
I am a singer/songwriter who started playing the keys by ear at the age of 10. I then took some classical, (which I didn't like at the time, and I basically would only practice the day before my lesson as I knew I could "fake my way" through it, playing mostly by ear. The teacher didn't know the difference. :-) However, I now wish I'd taken it a bit more seriously, and actually learned more than I did.
I wrote my first song at the age of 13... I had gone through quite a bit by that time in my life, and I wrote a song that reflected how I felt...
When I was 16, I wrote a Christmas song in about 3 hours, when my music teacher at the school had asked me the day before to write something for the Christmas concert. I don't think he really thought I would, and, I didn't realize I really could.
I was put into the concert the next night, and he and another person from our class, did some back up for me while I played the keys and sang my song. I ended up with two standing ovations. The first, after I got up from the piano, and the second, after I rejoined my ensemble group, and the teacher said to the audience, "By the way, she wrote that." It was probably one of the best nights of my life.
People asked me if I was going to record the song, etc., and it played on the local radio station. Unfortunately, it was also one of the toughest times in my life, and I dropped out of school a short time later.
I am very human, real and flawed. I have lived through much, and made many mistakes, but I have also learned through them, and have grown stronger through those experiences. I am a work in progress, always learning and growing.
Most of the songs I write are a reflection of the experiences, and emotions that I, or others dear to me, have walked through.
In the past couple of years, I've been hit with Bells Palsy, then completely lost my speaking voice last year. Thankfully, my singing voice wasn't affected much. My life has been at a crossroads in many areas, and I'm starting over from scratch.
I just lost a dear friend to cancer, but she inspired me to not let "myself" get in the way, and to keep my eyes focused on Him. So now, I am axiously waiting to see what the Lord has instore for me.
The Christmas song on this site, "Discovering Christmas" is the same song I wrote when I was 16. I have recorded it a couple of different times, and the version here was done a couple of years ago. It has always been very sentimental to me.
It is my hope and prayer, that something I write, will touch another heart out there, and be an encouragement to those who feel they are "too flawed" to make a difference in this world.
Don't most people?? I'd hate to think of them playing otherwise. :-) (Ok, that just showed my silly side... lol)
