Welcome to the SoundClick Page of Recording Artist Harold "HDUB" Whaley. Born in Inverness, Florida Harold has been attached to music since birth. As a young vocalist in the church choir, he caught the entertainment bug early in his life. Hdub spent the majority of his adolecence growing up on a farm in the city that bares the honors of being crowned "The City of the Worlds Greatest Horse Farms". So hard work was not a stranger to Harold. Reaching his teenage years and not having a choir in school to hone his skills he joined the high school band and became the only freshmen at North Marion High School in Citra, Florida to be placed in the 1st Jazz band and Symphonic Band. He was awarded "Outstanding Freshmen Musician" his beginning year in High School. The next four years saw him harnessing the "Outstanding 1st Jazz Band Member".
At the advice of his then music director "Barden Cuddington" he joined the U.S. Navy to pursue the Navy Band. "That move allowed me to leave the small town mentality of Ocala, Florida my then home of residence since the 4th grade". Harold remarks.
The change of my surroundings allowed me to
see the world and face the harsh reality of life.
Joining the Navy proved to be a challege in maintaining his vocal and brass horn skills.
Harold found a way to do it.
In early 1985 he was stationed in Philadelphia on a AirCraft Carrier as a Radar Operator.
Harold found himself in a band that was together for 8 months and never played one gig. As the band was searching for it's first location to perform a gig, they embarked on a Club called "2nd Story" a famous hotspot for popular recording artist to perform live. This particular evening the artist "Jean Carne" was the act.
Unbeknownst to Harold Jean would call him on stage to perform with her and hence begins a music career thats has expanded over 2 decades.Band/artist history
Harold Whaley was born and raised in a little town called Ocala, Florida.
There were no urban radio stations in Ocala, so Harold learned to appreciate
rock and country music, however, gospel and R&B were in his blood. Harold
started grooming himself for the music industry at a very young age. His
mother was a gospel and opera singer with a beautiful voice. Every time he
heard her sing or listened to her play Al Green, Marvin Gaye or Stevie
Wonder, he knew what he wanted to do. He joined the youth choir at church,
and when he went to high school he joined the marching band and became one
of the top trombone players in the state of Florida. The band gave Harold an
appreciation for other types of music like Jazz and Symphony and even
Country. Harold moved to Memphis to do studio work with Al Green and Patti
Labelle, but soon learned that singing was not enough. He taught himself to
play keyboards, write music, produce music, mix, master and
do his own graphics as well as design websites. In 1994 Harold entered
into a partnership with an independent label in San Diego, California called
Deemo Records and Mr. Arthur Mitchell. In 1995 he released his first single
entitled "Playthang", and in 1997 Deemo Records released his second single
"2 Nite Gyrl", both songs meet with moderate success, but not as expected by
Harold or the label. Harold and the label knew it was not the music; it had
to be the politics of the business. He has been peforming as a backup singer
for groups such as Patti Labelle, GQ, Heatwave, Denise Williams, and Many
more. "I enjoy touring with Singers that I listened to when I was a kid,
because they teach me so much about what not to do in this business. I think
by learning from their past mistakes, I'm not as likely to make as many."
Says Harold.
In 1999 mp3.com re-released the songs on the internet:
"Playthang " went to number two on the soul charts and "2 Nite Gyrl"
went to number 8. Harold is consistently at the top of the Internet charts.
Harold Whaley is set to release the Full-Length CD entitled "Like I Do"
on Deemo Records in 2000. The album will feature real R&B No samples and all
original music performed the old fashioned way." No gimmicks just a man,
flat out singing.Have you performed in front of an audience?Yes I play live around the globe, I prefer to record, but I do like the reaction of a live crowd.
