To a man whose mind is free there is something even more intolerable in the sufferings of animals than in the sufferings of man. For with the latter it is at least admitted that suffering is evil and that the man who causes it is a criminal. But thousands of animals are uselessly butchered every day without a shadow of remorse. If any man were to refer to it, he would be thought ridiculous. And that is the unpardonable crime." Romain Rolland, Nobel Prize 1915
The Christmas Ritual RhymeBy Sandra & Sent By Bonnie
The old dog sighs as he lies upon
the cold, wet cement floor,
Waiting for the ones he loves,
but he won't see them anymore.
They're celebrating Christmas cheer,
the time is getting near,
And in order to afford the extra toys and beer,
they can't buy food for an old dog,
so instead they brought him here.
No one wants an old dog,
even puppies get passed by,
Because most folks come to deliver,
not to rescue; let dogs die.
The old dog hears the young dogs cry,
they wait together and they know
That when the Christmas lights come down
it will be their time to go.
The children ride their new bikes,
Dad and Mother have new shoes;
The old dog doesn't understand,
he thought they loved him, too.
On New Years day, the children play,
they laugh and chant "Good will!"
And the old dog's body feeds the flies
at the county dump landfill.
