ethereal electronica to soothe your soul!
Sweet Annie is the solo project of Norwegian singer/songwriter Hilde Klain. She started singing and playing keyboards when she was 8 years old. Throughout her youth she sang in choirs and performed locally as a singer and keyboardist/organ player. She would sometimes perform traditional folk songs and hymns, other times more contemporary music. A move to Australia introduced her to jazz, and she tried her hand at songwriting. She decided to get serious about her music career, and left Australia for Los Angeles, where she studied, got a band together and started doing shows around the city. Sweet Annie has recently come out of the studio where she has been recording her debut EP which was released in February 2008. The sometimes bittersweet and melancholic songs are all originals, exploring the subjects of love, loss and life's challenges. Sweet Annie uses both programming and traditionally recorded instruments to support her haunting and emotional vocals. Growing up listening to artists like Miriam Makeeba, Joni Mitchell and Annie Lennox and later on electronica acts like Zero 7 and Air, her own style has emerged and brings an eclectic mix of alternative pop, electronica and jazz to the scene. For the EP, Sweet Annie hired Indian producer, Appu Krishnan, and engineer Mehdi Hassine, plus a range of talented musicians to help her bring out the unique sound which is Sweet Annie.
I love playing live, it's the biggest adrenaline rush when you are up on stage "in the moment" and can interact with your audience. Having said that though, it has been a little while since I actually have played live, but I am in the process of planning some live shows, and will play in the Los Angeles area later this fall.
I love downtempo electronica such as Air, Zero 7, Telepopmusik, the Bird & the Bee, but also artists like Bjork, Sade, Enya, Annie Lennox, Imogen Heap and Kate Havnevik.
