Although a product of hip hop, Roy WaXX seems to bring a certain element of musical surprise to the lyrical table. As one half of the "AP'z", one half of the "Labb Rattz" and a core member of the Gun Ru underground crew, the legendary "Madd Team" you can only expect nothing but tongue fire with intellegent gasoline!! Weaving through life in story telling form seems to be one of his specialties.
The self titled solo debut "Roy Waxx?" is complete with a release date of March 30th! So check out these FREE "leaked" MP3's from the album!
Basically I started out in Grand Rapids, MI, (Gun Ru) around 1987-88 and didn't get serious until about 90'. That's when I hooked up with Funk Mont who saw something in me and got me in the lab. It took off from there! Not long after that the Madd Team was formed. That was me, MadWayn, Tek 13, Jumbo, Civi, Grand Marqui, Dead Drunk and Lucky. That's all through the 1990's. To date there's a few hundred Madd Team songs!
Next thing happened was, I joined the Army in 97', got stationed in Colorado, hooked up with BlackFlame and Fury at a Black History Celebration and formed Affical Poetz. We did quite a bit of shows, released our album "fascinated". Not long after we performed at Colorado State University, because of creative differences, Fury left the group. Now the Poetz' roster is two deep, Roy WaXX and BlackFlame. Now its the "AP'z". The follow up to the "fascinated" is just about finished. Check for that this winter its titled "Knowledge is Free".
Me and Black left CO in 00'. I went back to Michigan he broke for Cali. Six months later I made the move to Cali, form BlackZea Music Group which consists of the AP'z and the Labb Rattz.
I stay very busy working on my production skills and writin' alot. Its been a lot going on in the world and alot of things need to be said. We're saying those things! Live in the BlackZea!! (pronounced black sea)
Of course I do live shows! That's the best part about all of this. That's pretty much the only time you can really connect with your own fans. As far as where, check out roywaxx.net and http://roywaxx.iuma.com and stay posted!
I'm constantly being influenced by artists all the time. But some of my early influences include Run DMC, R.I.P. JMJ. Rakim, LL, Jimi Hendrix, Souls of Mischief. There's so many I could go on and on. But one in particular that really stands out among the rest is Talib Kweli. I respect his work. Matter of fact I'm going to the Catalyst in Santa Cruz tonite to check out a Mos Def show.
Gotta keep some things secret.
Roy WaXX just wanna say big up to my entire BlackZea Music family out in Cali and Michigan. To DJ MostAmaz editor in chief of "MostAmaz Magazine",to my Madd Team members holdin' the crown in Gun-Ru. To Shado, Naheem, Cold Work, Lucky, Funk Mont, Apostle (A.P.), MadWayn, Civi, Grand Marqui, Jumbo,Tek 13, CDZ, DJ Head and Yvette. The team is strong, we movin!!
