Band/artist history
In 1999, Patrick Stirrat and Neel Daniel were in a band called Blockhead with a drummer named Pete Glase. For some reason, Pete sold his drums when we were mixing our second record. (Actually, it was to buy scuba gear). As a result, we needed to change the lineup a bit. At the same time, we had a bunch of songs written that weren't necessarily the kind of music that Blockhead was doing. Just for fun, we decided to jam around with Leslie Kooy, who was a long time friend of Patrick's, and Brian T. Lumb, who had recently relocated from San Jose to Seattle. Pete (Scubaman) played lead guitar. We played some of the non-Blockhead Blockhead songs, and they worked really well with this lineup. In 2000, we decided to record a CD, which became 2001's Non-Specific Gravity. This was followed almost immediately with 2002's A Murder of Crows. [Here's a bit of trivia: most of the songs on A Murder of Crows were originally written to be on Blockhead's third CD, tentatively titled Spinal Cracker. But we thought, hey, I wonder how these songs would sound if the C-Revs did them? The answer is that they worked really well, well enough that we pulled the plug on Blockhead altogether.] The band is currently working on their third CD, which should be out in the early part of 2004.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
Yes, mostly around Seattle. It is a blast. We did a live radio show once, that was very cool.
Your musical influences
We're pretty eclectic. The common thread among the influences are that they are all great songwriters. That's really what motivates us -- a good song. Bands like Aimee Mann, The Finn Brothers, Husker Du, Cracker, Elvis Costello, Ben Folds, New Pornographers, and the Presidents of the USA are certainly influencing our sound. But you will also hear elements of The Beatles, Queen, Tom Petty, Kiss, Joe Jackson, REM, The Police, Cheap Trick, and even Steve Miller.
What equipment do you use?
We prefer simple and analog. Our first two records were done on half-inch 8 track analog.
Anything else?
Thanks for listening. We love you.
