You can find demo and live versions of all our songs. Some of these versions are of a terrible recording quality, but they are songs none the less and you should respect them.

Band/artist history

Formed in March 2008, Beijing based GAWTMY have already seen more drama and intrigue than most bands experience in a whole career.

Founding members Donna Renae (Drums) and Natan Doron (vocals) were initially joined by three other members, two of which suffered emergency hospitalisations whilst still in the band. Eventually all three members left citing musical differences and near-death experiences.

As things were looking bleak, Luke Tweedy (Sax, Flute and Vocals) joined and the band rehearsed a while as a 3-piece. Then, when things were looking tough, Wang Xiao Bing (Bass) and Michelle Woo (Violin) joined GAWTMY on the same night and the band finally had a line up ready to play live.

GAWTMY made their debut on June 10th at Beijing's legendary D22 venue, rejoined by former-hospitalised-member Anita Chiu in a dramatic-climatic run through of the 'Zombie Song'. GAWTMY were finally born into the public imagination. GAWTMY's next step was obvious. What do most bands do following their first show? They play an impromptu guerilla gig on the Beijing subway. Going all the way round Line 2 playing to delighted crowds, GAWTMY played until ushered away by confused Beijing police on the Xizhimen platform.

The band has worked with a Producer known variously as 'Al' 'Joe' 'Eno' and 'the crazy drunk dude who looks like Nigel Kennedy'. Al produced the version of 'Zombie Song' you can hear on this page. Unfortunately, the song is still not quite finished, as Al suffered the fate of former GAWTMY members, and ended up hospitalised in Panama for up to three months whilst GAWTMY took a break due to Natan and Luke being deported from China whilst the Olympics took place.

Natan and Luke both returned to Beijing and the band was joined by two new members. Liu Yang (keys) and Kirsten Melby-Thompson (Violin/Vocals) took the line up to seven members and developed the sound to beautiful new heights.

Luke then was forced to return to the UK when his identity was called into question following damage to his passport. Whilst he convinced authorities of his existence in Durham, GAWTMY played it's second show at D22 on November 18th.

December 2008 was a fantastic end to a rollercoaster year for GAWTMY, with the band playing another great show at D22 with Hugh Reed on the 4th of December followed by a brilliant show at 2 Kolegas on Dec 19th.

2009 began with much excitement. GAWTMY played their largest show to date at Mao Live as part of the Greenpeace: Make Some Noise event to a rapturous reception from the audience. The band are currently recording ahead of another D22 show with Arrows Made of Desire on April 17th
