Pharlons funk and soul infused songwriting is a potent brew, an intoxicant for the aural senses. And thats as it should be. With music, Pharlon is attempting to share the artists view with the listener. Says Pharlon, Music makes time stand still for me, says Pharlon. When all the commotion of the world is zooming by, music makes my time in space pause. And that is the gift of Pharlon to the listener a mesmerizing break with the laws of space-time. And great entertainment.
Heart and Soul
Some music is real. And some is just artificial. And it all depends on the source. If an artist is just cranking out shallow, cookie-cutter songs whose source is in vapid pop music theory rather than the pure marrow of the human spirit, the result is aural junk food. But if it comes truly from within, with an honest opening up of the self, the result is aural bliss. Music should be made from the heart and soul, according to Pharlon. It should be created from within, not from what you think should be made to fit in to cooperate American radio.
And the result of true, personal songwriting is originality, the key to great music. Pharlon speaks from a distinct world view, fueled by individual ideas. Its the key to growth in the world of music as well as artistic and career success. I truly feel that originality is the key to real success and longevity in this industry. Pharlon is an artist with staying power, indeed.
The Artist at Work
In addition to Pharlons own music, this artist produces others music. Pharlon owns a recording studio and is busy recording several other area musicians. In addition, Pharlons sophomore CD will be hitting the streets soon. The debut was entitled Unkle Bangs Funk Collection, a compilation of works from 1995 to 2006. Ultimately, music, for Pharlon, is more than entertainment. Its setting an example for the next generation. We need to pull the creativity out of children and set an example of how to create from within so that we avoid having an industry filled with zombies, unable to reach inside themselves and the universe for true creativity. Pharlon is currently working with A&R Select, the hottest indie A&R firm in Hollywood, CA.
Pharlons uniquely flavorful music is an example of how to excel musically. A&R Select
Pharlon is no stranger to Music. It all started out in the early 70s. His mother would sit down on their organ and plug away at Green Onions and other soul classic tunes. Being a kid, of course, Pharlon tried to go over there and plug away himself, mostly out of boredom. Eventually, that habit born of boredom became a skill. At 13, he realized that he really was pretty good at it and convinced his father to buy his first synthesizer from the local Radio Shack. (It was the Moog synth that radio shack carried if that rings a bell). From that point on you couldnt keep him away from his music. At the age where most adolescents were going through a change of life, Pharlon knew exactly what he wanted to do. He wanted to be Matt Fink from Prince's band or Jimmy Jam from the time. His vision became even clearer when he joined his first band, Yourz Truly. The kid wonders were a unique band made of members between the ages of 14 16 who wrote all of their material, and dazzled audiences with their live performances, selling out the local arena close to 5,000 seats - whenever they appeared. Their success was unparalleled for a band with no major backing at that time. Eventually Yourz Truly downsized and became Fo Deep and went on to top the radio charts in the Michigan Tri-Cities area beating out national acts including Jodeci and Mint Condition. In 1994, life took its turn with several band members and the group disbanded, however, Pharlon remained true to his calling and went solo. Pharlon opened BANGTOWN Productions and Recordings in 1996. He has produced various projects for artists from Michigan to Arizona. He has appeared on more than 30 CDs and is in constant demand. BANGTOWN Productions and Recordings has yet to spend a dime on advertising. His skills speak for themselves and the word out is that he does good work. He collaborates and produces with others yet he finds time to develop his solo material. He plays all of his instruments, raps and sings all his vocals and has the ability to sound like 10 different people all at the same time! Pharlon was the first runner up in the John Lennon Songwriting Contest in 2000 with his song CCVCCD. He also scored high on the Billboard Songwriting competition. Pharlon (BANGTOWN) has lived a life of music and is now ready to take his sound and talent to the next level. Sit back and enjoy the ride.
