We're VELVET MOJO from Newcastle, Australia. We're a Funk/Rock trio comprising of Mat "Hoyo" Hoy on Vocals & Bass, Dan "Funky Dan" Huish on Guitar & James "Goonbag" Hunt on drums. We've been gigging round Newy for nearly a year now racking up around 50 shows but are extremely keen to hit the road & start spreading the word.
Our sound is reminiscent of early Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Faith No More, Incubus and Audioslave, mashed in a blender with cheap wine & bourbon & served Cool (ICE COOL!!!). Or whatever you think. Thats what really counts.
Our influences are wide & varied including: Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Faith No More, Incubus, Audioslave, John Butler Trio, Grinspoon, Silverchair, Foo Fighters, Jeff Buckley, The Beautiful Girls, Muse, Tool, Primus, Victor Wooten, The Meters, Deftones, Nine Inch Nails, Pearl Jam, Gyroscope, Jimmy Eat World, The Screaming Jets, Karnivool, System Of A Down, The White Stripes, WolfMother, Led Zeppellin & many, many more. The list really is endless.
Cuppa Jo' is our first and only recording to date which we completed earlier this year on a very modest budget.
It's a 7 track E.P and we're extremely proud of how it turned out but we can't wait to get back in the studio and lay down our newer songs which we think are even better.
Some of our career highlights include gigging with Grant Walmsley from The Screaming Jets and world renowned musician Afro Moses from Moses O'Jah.

Have you performed in front of an audience?
We play live every week all over NSW & we wouldnt have it any other way. Every gig has some sort of special moment, usually when Funky Dan rocks too hard & falls on his ass.
