The legend continues-Rosie Gaines was introduced to the public in 1990 as the new vocalist and keyboard player on Princes nude tour. The first time we hear her on a prince album was on Graffiti Bridge. She was also a member of the NPG in the movie (by the same name) then she also performed and co-wrote on the Multi million selling Diamonds and Pearls album with such classics as Gett Off, Cream and the album title Diamonds and Pearls, Ms Gaines completed various world stadium tours with Prince and The Npg, Rosie's duet with Prince on Nothing Compares to You is one of the most downloaded live mp3's on the web, and is such a classic that neither Prince or Rosie Gaines have ever sung it with anybody else. After all the touring and recording with Prince Ms Gaines then decided it was time for her to go solo again.
Rosie also played in a band called the 0asis and a Touch of Class, before joining the Curtis Olson band (Ray Charles bassplayer) with Levi Seacer on guitar. Levi called Rosie one day and asked her to come to Minneapolis to sing a demo of a song for the Pointer Sisters, while she was doing the demo Prince came into the studio and heard her sing and asked her to join his band THE NEW POWER GENERATION, Prince often referred to Rosie as his secret weapon, Her Scream at the begining of her and Princes track GET OFF has been sampled thousands of times by Hip Hop producers worldwide most famously in House Of Pains Jump Around.
Rosie Gaines Multi-Instrumentalist, Producer/songwriter Rosie Gaines is the youngest of 10 children, Her first band was a family funk soul group called Unity, with Rosie on Organ, her brother Carl on bass, her cousin lacy on guitar, sister in law Dianne on background vocals and her sister Mal on drums,She released her first major album on Epic Records.
She left the NPG in 1993 but continued to work with Prince on and off throughout the years,Rosie then recorded her debut solo album for Motown records which was released in 1995 and contained songs written by her and Prince and a duet made in the studio with Marvin Gaye.
In 1998 an independent record label remixed CLOSER THAN CLOSE from the Motown album the single went on to sell 260,000 singles in the UK alone and featured on over 200 compilations. Rosie also received a MOBO award for best international vocalist.
After taking a break for a few years to spend time with her family, in 2002 Rosie decided to get back in the studio, her first project was writing and performing with Snoop Dog and Bootsy Collins for a Bootsy Collins album Titled Playing With Bootsie ,The track is entitled Don't Let Em and was written and performed by Ms Gaines with Snoop Dog And Bootsy Collins.
During this time Rosie was also contacted by Dome Records the independent soul label in the UK who asked if they could compile and release some of her older recordings, the album entitled YOU GAVE ME FREEDOM had a low key release through Dome records and was acclaimed critically recieving plaudits such as Blues and Soul and Jazz FM's album of the month . Rosie has been back in the studio and a new album of new material will be released in early 2006 with a tour to follow.
Ms Gaines recorded one track under the name RED Titled Release The Pressure.
