Long Road Home [the album] is my attempt to show how war affects ordinary people, and to articulate the suffering and pain that it causes on a personal level. I have to point out it was written around 20 years ago and recorded as a demo on a very old four track cassette machine, so the sound quality is not as I would like it, however, taking that into consideration I think it stands up fairly well as a piece...
I am not a pacifist, as such, and I have great respect for our armed forces who have to pick up the pieces created by our political leaders.
There are some causes that are just, as there are some causes that are not.
We as citizens of a democracy can only be guided by our leaders as to what is just and what is not, however if we find that they have lied to us we must vote to remove them. It is unfortunate that Long Road Home is as relevant today as it was in the time it portrays and at the time I wrote it...

Great athmospheric sound to the song .Sweet finger picking with lovely storyline and vocals.
Very deep and Emotional.
Hello Neil,
I enjoyed this song....excellent vocals and guitar work...
Wishing you and yours a Wonderful Christmas, ;)
Kurt
You've really captured that Christmas in a simple song Neil. Very well done, with just enough pathos and sadness in the lyrics. Nice saxophone in the backgroung too. Is that a real sax or from a Roland 'synth' guitar ?
The 'avatars' for your songs are all haunting images and very appropriate. Very well thought out, top marks Neil.
nice acoustic guitar creates a very sweet melody and your vocals come in just at the same time as the same note is played...your vocals are very heartfelt, and you're a good story teller. love this song, it's gives a mental picture and a texture, even with just a singer/songwriter/guitarist song vs. band. partly because of the cool ring in the production...but lyrics are a bit low, needed to turn up the volume. otherthanthat - i love this story, and how it is being told with your beautiful voice and guitar playing - down to the last harmonics.
peace--jd
