Band/artist history
Caine, EJ and K-Rich are better known as Life Story Records' DaMention. Straight out da Chi - DaMention is 'bout to resurrect the game. As true lyricists, DaMention's focus is to give you something to listen to. They keep it gutta, hood and most importantly, real. It's time for someone to step up and bring something new to the table. And that someone comes to you in the form of these Chicago WEST SIDE natives.
DaMention knows nothing but music. Its been in them since childhood. As kids, all three members of DaMention attended Crown Community Academy and Fine Arts Center on the west side of Chicago. The school was well known for being one of only a few schools that incorporated the study of the arts in its curriculum. After Crown, E.J. graduated from Whitney Young High School and then attended St. Xavier University; K-Rich graduated from Proviso West High School, and then attended Northern Illinois University; Caine attended George W. Collins High School, Curie Metropolitan High School and Farragut High School.
Throughout their high school years, DaMention wrote music and recorded it on small tape recorders. Working small jobs, DaMention hustled up enough money to purchase amateur recording equipment. The three would meet up as often as possible, in an attempt to perfect their craft. The equipment was nothing more than a computer, a pair of Walkman headphones, a Karaoke machine microphone, and a bedroom closet as their booth. After countless days and endless nights, K-Rich, Caine and E.J. had finally completed a demo. The guys took the demo back to Chicago and played it on the block in which they grew up. The music sparked the interests of Ms. Carla "Boss Lady" Fleming and Mr. Severin "Seville" Richardson, the founders of Life Story Records. The guys had a meeting of the minds, so to speak, with the Life Story executives and came up with the name, "DaMention". DaMention signed a contract with Life Story Records, which officially made them a member of the Life Story Family. Their debut album, "Dynamite, Tools and Maps" has something for everyone. There is something for the east coast, the west coast and of course, down south. DaMention has accomplished the goal of combining head nodding beats with meaningful lyrics. They have proven that they are here to stay. They are a force to be reckoned with, and the rest is yet to come!
