as long as i can remember, i've been around music. my dad was in a touring band and was a session musician in nashville for a while, when i was real little. he's a really good fucking drummer. i was honestly too young to remember alot of it, but i do remember they would practice in our basement and get in crazy fights. which i didn't think about then, but now that i am, it's really striking. that kind of passion, you know. anyways, it's always been a part of my brain, so i can't really pinpoint an exact moment when it came alive for me or whatever. as far as my recordings and stuff goes, the first instrument i learned how to play was the tuba in school band, and then around 13 i picked up the bass, and then i started playing guitar regularly my first semester of college. i first started recording on a piece of shit laptop with sound recorder and a headset phone mic. eventually it died and i lost alot of master tracks, but whatever. i've written so much since then, my style has changed so much.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
as it stands now, i play an open mic at the thirsty hippo in hattiesburg once in a blue moon, but i have really severe stage fright, to the point where i get pretty ill. anyway, i want to start playing around more, which sounds counterintuitive, but bear in mind that people don't always come to open mic to hear you specifically, as opposed to a solo show or opening gig or whatever. it's easier that way.
What equipment do you use?
for these, i used a fairly standard condenser mic (which i can't remember the make of. it's my job's set up, i just use it after hours) and sound forge 5 to record, and audacity to edit/mix. i'm a fan of the simple stuff.
