Band/artist history
Jahsh B was born in Port-au-Prince Haiti. He arrived in America in 1986 at the age of 8 after the death of his mother. Once here, Jahsh confronted many of life’s harsh realities that accompany ghetto living . No one secured a home for him. He had to live nomadically with aunts, uncles, etc. for several years. Jahsh grew up in a Christian family where his grandfather established the first French/Creole church in the community of Bushwick, Brooklyn, NYC. Jahsh began to explore the world of music at the age of 10. From the beginning of his musical experiences he had a powerful vision - He wanted to be one of the voices expressing liberation through rebel music. In elementary school, Jahsh portrayed the role of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in a school play. Around this time, Jahsh began taking guitar lessons at home. By age 13, he began attending the Brooklyn Academy of Music to enhance his guitar skills. As time progressed, he began learning other instruments as well. Among them were the electric and bass guitar, percussions, drums, etc. Jahsh was also active in his grandfather’s church choir as a songwriter, arranger, and singer. Throughout the years, Jahsh has evolved musically on many levels. He began to take his career seriously as a teenager playing instruments, singing, chatting reggae, and MCing in English, Creole, and French. He was inspired to broaden his horizons with reggae by Mark and Chris Grant who operate a reggae sound system called Gemtone. Reggae is a major focus in Jahsh’s music because of its conscious Rastafarian roots which helped shape his musical development. Jahsh has taken all his influences and God-given talents to create his own unique sound and style. Over the years, Jahsh has performed on many venues for thousands of people. †He performed in the Jammins Summer beachFest 2001 at Keyspan Park, Brooklyn,NY a concert organized as a tribute to Bob Marley and Peter Tosh. At this show he opened up for artists such as Maxi Priest,Beenie man Luciano, Wyclef Jean... †Jahsh also performed at the kompa fest 2001 on May 18 (Haitian Flag Day) at the aqueduct in Queens, NY alongside well known Haitian Compa artists like Zin, Tabou Combo, and Phantom ,Emeline Michel ect.. Another of his performances took place on May 18,2001 for Caribbean Image at Senegal Manor in Brooklyn, NY. †He also performed at Barcode in NYC in 2002, Star Room in East Hampton in 2002, Long Island, †Brown Chocolate Cafe in Brooklyn, Medgar Evers College in Brooklyn for a celebration of Haiti's 200 years of Independence in 2003. - @ The AFRICAN AMERICAN EXPO 2005 IN NYC Metropolitain pavillon.
