Riley has enjoyed playing bass in a number of different bands, ranging in genre from scummy pub rock, to blues covers and original contemporary folk. However, before he even began playing in bands, Riley has been composing and arranging music for solo bass guitar, which he has performed all over the state. Riley not only draws musical influence from bass virtuosos such as Jaco Pastorius and Victor Wooten, but also from artists like Jimi Hendrix and jazz guitarist, Pat Metheny, as well as a number of bands, including Pink Floyd and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. The result is a fusion of psychedelic effects, Jazzy harmonies and original, folk-like melodies.
In 2005, Riley toured the North West of Australia, playing baritone saxophone in his high school concert band. While he did not play bass in the school band, the music staff were well aware of his talent after seeing Riley give many outstanding solo bass performances at school concerts. As such, Riley performed bass solos as a feature artist throughout the school music tour. He was also asked to perform at his graduation later that year; and it was an insane performance that received a rowdy standing-ovation from his awe-struck classmates and their families. Since then, Riley has been a valuable contact for local performing arts groups, such as the Mundaring Folk and Blues Club, and the Mundaring Performing Arts Society.
The Mundaring Bicentennial Scholarship is a trust awarding young artists with financial grants to enable them to further their talent through study. Despite not being a student, or having plans to study, Riley was a joint-winner of the scholarship in 2006. Naturally, he felt that a new bass and more effects pedals was just what he needed to further his talent. At present, Riley plays four basses, these include a regular four-string bass, a five-string bass, a tenor-bass and, most recently, a fretless bass.
Wraggotry in Motion is the title of Rileys first home-recorded album, which includes some of his own original works, as well as some elegantly interpreted covers. Exactly what Wraggotry, or indeed, a Wraggot is, we may never have the fortune of knowing. However, what we do know is that, whatever Wraggotry may be, it certainly provides us with a beautiful and fascinating listening experience when it is on the move.

All music, I hear, really. The term music is not to be used loosely, though.
